-Lindsey~

It's early in the morning, a couple of days after we got home, when I find myself standing in the kitchen, drinking a much needed cup of coffee as my ex mother- in- law maneuvers around me. She's probably been up for hours but I've never known her to actually sleep in, not even on Saturday mornings does she sleep until eight- I'm sure of it.

"You look like a bus hit you going fifty miles an hour." She says it, but the truth is- I feel like it, so I'm not surprised that I don't look like a stunner.

"Your daughter and great granddaughter really kept me on the move last night." I reply and she lets out a small sigh.

Lynley is very fussy, especially at night. She wants to be held and Stevie has been having a difficult time the last couple of days.

"I'm really worried, Lindsey." She admits as she takes a sip of her coffee.

"I know- it's gonna be hard without Lydia." I can't even begin to grasp the fact that she's gone, so when someone reminds me that we have a funeral in two days, I want to scream.

"It definitely is, but I'm also very worried about Stevie trying to raise this baby." She's always been protective over her girl, but this time she actually leaves me stunned.

She's normally all aboard when Stevie makes rash, big decisions, because she knows that Stevie's always two steps ahead of everyone else. She usually knows what she can handle and what she can't, but right now is a very unpredictable time.

"She's not very young anymore..." Barbara kinda rolls her eyes at her own comment, because she knows that that would really hurt Stevie's feelings if she heard her mother say that. "I mean, it's hard to take care of a child at twenty- five... let alone sixty." She adds, probably trying to make her old age comment sound better.

"Stevie is a very strong, smart woman and I'm sure she'll be great at mothering this baby." I truly believe that, because Stevie has the biggest heart out of anyone I've ever met and she'll give this child the best life she could ever ask for.

"Lindsey, I know you've said it, but you have to promise me something." She sets her cup on the counter as she burns her eyes deep into mine.

"Anything, Barb."

"Please, be here for her."

"I've already assured her that I'm not going anywhere." I couldn't imagine leaving Stevie to take care of an infant all by herself, not because I don't think she could, but because I wouldn't want her to have such a heavy load at such a... such a mature age. "I promise- I'm not leaving her."

"You've always been the best son- in- law." She gives me a weak smile as she sets her hand over mine.

"Well, believe it or not- I still really do love Stevie and I still want the best for her." I've always been in love with my ex- wife, and even after eight years of dislike- I still find it impossible to just not care for her well being.

"That's sweet, Lindsey." She gives my hand one more soft squeeze.

"Oh shit." Luca's whiny voice fills my ears as he makes his way into the kitchen. "I think I broke my freaking back on that air mattress." He rubs his eyes as he slowly falls to the kitchen floor, laying flat on his stomach.

"Join the club." I actually think his mother took one of her claws and poked a hole in mine, because this morning half the air was out of it and I was basically sleeping on the hardwood flooring.

"Good morning," Before I can even reply, Katrina is walking right towards me, wrapping her arms around my waist to kiss my lips.
