"In the meantime, let's make some cupcakes."

I giggled and nodded, moving to the side so she could join me easier. "Mind sifting the dry ingredients into a bowl for me?"

Daniela kissed my cheek before beginning her task. "You're the boss! What kind are we making?"

"Red velvet — I remember Isa saying that's their favorite."

"Mmm, something to cheer them up? You noticed it too?"

"They can mask their pain all they want, but it's obvious that their situation upsetting Costin has upset them."

"So thoughtful," She purred. "You've always been super sweet — I think that's another reason I've always loved you."

"Even when I would barely talk?"

"Especially then! Even though you knew most people would be rude about your muteness, you were always kind to everyone. And when I had that elaborate scheme to get Isa and Cass together, you went along with it, knowing it would probably upset them both."

I smiled to myself as I added eggs to the mix. "Sometimes I have nightmares from that time, you know?"

"Really?"

"Mhm. Sometimes, Isa leaves and never comes back. Cass never moves on either, and I never meet Costin."

"That is a nightmare," Daniela muttered with a frown. "That explains why you hold onto me tighter some nights."

I kissed her cheek and smiled. "But then I wake up and remember they're happily married — with a son too."

"Thinking back now, it was an insane plan."

"That somehow worked," I reminded her, adding vanilla to my bowl. "And ended up with us being together."

"Eventually," Daniela giggled before adding the dry ingredients for me. "We weren't exactly..."

"Aware of each other's feelings?"

"Yeah," We giggled while I mixed the ingredients. "Have you ever wanted to be a parent?"

"...Honestly, I never really thought about it until I met Costin, but I'm still not sure. I like being the fun aunt."

"I'm the fun aunt!"

"I bake him sweets. The kid has a bigger sweet tooth than you do."

Daniela giggled as I put the cupcakes in the oven. "I might've had a hand in that."

"Sneaking sweets to him?!" I gasped playfully and grabbed her hand.

"You make it sound like Isa didn't do that themself!"

"The both of you?! I can't believe it!"

"He pouts! How can you say no to that face? He has little dimples."

"So all I have to do is pout and I get anything I want?" I inquired with a smirk.

Daniela hummed and placed her hands on my hips, pulling me closer. "All you have to do is ask, and it's yours."

"A kiss?"

"With pleasure."

My arms wrapped around her neck as she connected our lips, a smile spreading across my face. The kiss was short and sweet, only separating when we heard footsteps approaching. 'Sounds like Hunter,' I pouted up at Daniela until she pecked my lips again. 'Wonder what she wants.' When the door opened, I turned my attention to Hunter and offered her a smile.

"Don't mind me, lovebirds," Hunter giggled as she opened the fridge and grabbed a juice box. "I'm just getting juice."

"For Costin or Isa?" Daniela smirked after seeing the apple juice she grabbed.

"Ha. Costin. He and Bela are playing, but I know he's going to ask for it soon. Always does."

"He gets it from Isa."

"And I curse them every day for it," Hunter laughed as she left the kitchen.

"Now," I hummed and pulled away from Daniela. "The icing. Then once we do that-."

"Back to that kiss?"

"We take the cupcakes out and ice them."

"Then the kiss?"

"Somewhere private first," I promised before pecking her lips. "And after leaving a note with the cupcakes."

Daniela grinned and joined my side again. "I can work with that."

We worked quickly on the icing — finishing with enough time to relax as the cupcakes remained in the oven for a few more minutes. Daniela had wrapped her arms around my waist and decided to lean against the counter, giving me the opportunity to rest my head on her chest while we waited. I let my eyes shut as the only sound I could hear was our breathing, enjoying the unusual silence of the castle.

'It's rare to have quiet moments — especially in such a high-traffic area of the castle,' My fingers curled into the fabric of Daniela's dress, making my heart skip a beat when she squeezed my waist. 'I should make her a special one. One using my blood in the icing.' A soft whine left me when Daniela moved one arm away from me, only earning a laugh from the vampire.

"I'm checking on the cupcakes," She promised before returning her arm to its spot. "Better?"

I nodded before tracing my question on her back. "How long until they're ready?"

"A few more minutes."

"When you're icing them, leave one of them alone."

"Why?"

"It's a special one — or, it will be."

"Oh? For who?"

"You."

"Now I'm interested," Daniela giggled.

Silence settled over us once more, making it difficult to not overthink my plan. 'What if she tries to stop me? What if I get scared and can't do it?! I want it to be perfect for her, just in case she doesn't like the rest of the cupcake!' I squeaked when her hands were suddenly cupping my cheeks and moving my head away from her chest. Concern danced in her gold eyes until I reached for the oven, opening it to check on the cupcakes.

With a small smile, I pulled away from Daniela and grabbed an oven mitt, taking out the cupcakes a moment later. Daniela grabbed my wrist after I set them down and moved me away from the oven, her hand moving mine to her chest. We locked eyes and before too long, I let out a sigh of defeat, only to be met with her smile.

"I wanted to make you a cupcake that has my blood mixed in with the icing."

"Baby-."

"I was overthinking it earlier, that's all. I promise."
