??? POVAn old, rundown cabin stood alone in an empty field. With a soft sigh, I made my way toward it and slotted the key into the padlock, rolling my eyes when it snapped in half after I tried to turn it. I removed my jacket and wrapped it around my hand before punching out one of the windows. After clearing most of the glass, I climbed through and removed my jacket once on the other side.
I shook some glass pieces out of it before tossing it over the windowsill. As I stepped further into the cabin, I noticed how damaged it was and made a mental note to watch everywhere I stepped. I finally made it to the room I was searching for, a faint smile pulling at the corners of my mouth.
'It's so close... I can't believe it. Soon... Soon I'll be able to fix what was broken.'
I stepped further into the room before jumping back slightly when the plank I stepped on snapped in half. With a silent curse, I tested the other boards before letting out a frustrated sigh. They were all weakened, which left me with the option to jump over them. But without being able to test those boards, it was a total guessing game.
My eyes scanned the room before landing on my target. A book. A stupid book that I've traveled thousands of miles to look for. A stupid book that nearly cost me my life for a while now. I groaned when I realized it was barely out of reach.
Deciding to risk it, I put as little weight onto the next board as possible, cringing when I heard the wood splintering. I quickly grabbed the book and moved back to my original position. The quill was still tapped to the book, thankfully. I left the room and grabbed my jacket before jumping out of the window.
'Let's hope this works the way she said,' I internally sighed and opened the book, noticing faint words for most of it. 'What the hell?'
Once I got to where the words were darker, I began writing a different path for the main character. After a few paragraphs, the faint writing changed entirely. I smiled. For the first time in years, I actually smiled.
'Hekate, you gorgeous genius.'
"Thank you," The voice of said goddess sounded next to my ear, making me jump slightly. "Now go, you're needed for this story too. Just... Don't let anyone know about that. And don't add anything unless it deviates from a happy ending, got it?"
"Yeah, I got it... You already got me the job?"
"Of course. Now go, your first day is tomorrow."
Narrator
"I wonder who this mysterious character is and what their tie to the goddess of Witchcraft is. Let's see how things play ou—. Wait a minute... What are you doing here?! You shouldn't be here! Get out there! This is your story!"
Deep sigh.
"You can't find decent talent these days."
Confused hum.
"Why are you still here?! Oh, right... You need a way in... One moment and uhm... I hope you don't mind having vertigo... You'll have it after this."
"Who am I? None of your fucking business. Now, just relax and trust me. I'll get you back to your vampire-infested castle. Hm? Be nice to them? Why?"
"Okay, yeah, them being hot is good enough reason to be nice to them. You win this round. Now, just close your eyes and count to ten."
"If I wanted you dead, you'd be dead already. ...Do you want a vampire girlfriend or not?!"
Scoffs.
"That's what I thought."
"You're not counting. Yes, it's necessary! Now count!"
Mutters; "I need new talent."
"I didn't say anything. Start over."
Third-person POV
A bright light engulfed the room once the mysterious figure got to ten, leaving the other figure alone. Once the light died down, the figure that was counting woke up in a warm bed. They slowly sat up and rubbed the sleep from their eyes, a dazed expression on their face.
There was a loud noise on the other side of the door, followed by a bone-chilling scream and loud growls. The girl whimpered to herself before getting out of her bed as quietly as she could, making her way to the window. She opened her window and snuck out, knowing the lycans had killed the rest of her family.
"Who's this?" A man laughed before grabbing the girl's arm and lifting her. "Which one of you idiots forgot to kill the whole family?! If Miranda finds out—."
"If I find out about what?" A cold voice came from behind the man as her icy blue eyes shifted to the girl. "Release her, Heisenberg."
The man scoffed but did as he was told, clenching his jaw shortly after. The girl stumbled before regaining her balance, [E/C] eyes silently pleading with the woman to spare her. Miranda gently grabbed her jaw, slowly moving her head — inspecting her — before a faint smile appeared on her face.
"I have the perfect job for you. Can you bake? Or clean? Both would be preferable."
Miranda's head tilted when the girl didn't respond, managing to fluster said girl immediately. "Do you speak?"
The girl shook her head as best she could, which resulted in Miranda removing her hand from the girl's jaw. "We can still work with this. Can you bake?"
When the girl nodded, Miranda asked another question. "And cleaning?"
The girl nodded again and Miranda gave a smile of approval. "Perfect. Come with me, little one."
Miranda turned and began walking, leaving the mute girl to rush after her once she recovered from her shock. It took a bit, but the two eventually stopped in front of a castle. A whine built in the back of the girl's throat — having grown up hearing the stories of what happened in that castle. Miranda's blue eyes darted over to the girl before she opened the castle doors, motioning for the girl to enter.
"You can always choose to not enter. I do have another daughter you can bake and clean for, but she does have a monster in her basement. Plus, you'd have to get there on your own, I have a meeting with Alcina right now. Make your choice."
Despite her whine, the girl stepped into the castle, only flinching when the doors shut behind them. When Miranda offered her her arm, the girl immediately looped her arms around it — wide eyes scanning the room for any threats. There was a chuckle that grabbed the girl's attention, making her lift her head to one of the doors next to a painting of three gorgeous women.
"I see you've brought me a new maid, Mother Miranda. What's her name?"
"That's an excellent question... What is your name, Quiet one?"
