"That's an excellent question... What is your name, Quiet one?"
First Person POV
I unlinked our arms before signing my name for them, shifting nervously under the gaze of lady Dimitrescu. Miranda hummed before gently grabbing my arm, leading me toward lady Dimitrescu. We followed the lady through the door until we reached the lounge, my eyes immediately scanning the room to take in as much detail as I could. I ignored the conversation the two were having — if they wanted me to listen, they'd have said something by now.
My eyes landed at the top of the staircase where a woman dressed in black stood, her hand on the railing as she looked down at us. When her eyes locked with mine, I quickly looked away and tried to ignore the rapid beating of my heart. A moment later and the sound of footsteps could be heard coming down the stairs, making me lift my gaze once more. The woman still had her eyes on me and it made me squirm a bit on the inside.
Her gold eyes burned with interest the longer she watched me. A soft whine rose in the back of my throat — gaining Miranda's attention. Miranda cleared her throat, pulling the woman's attention away from me. She sent Miranda a smile before turning her attention to lady Dimitrescu, a faint buzzing filling the air.
"Who are they? A new maid?!" Her voice was like music to my ears, and the smile that spread across her face melted my heart.
'No... It's not worth it. She won't be interested once she finds out I'm mute... No one ever is...'
I internally frowned — annoyed with the fact that I upset myself so easily. Lady Dimitrescu's eyes darted to me for a moment — full of concern — before returning to the woman.
"Yes, they are. Go get your sisters for me, dear. I'll introduce you all."
"Yes, mother." The woman left shortly after, causing my full attention to land on lady Dimitrescu again.
"I take it you're mute?" The lady inquired, her gold eyes scanning my body.
"I am, my lady."
"Then I'll make sure my daughters know that so you don't get in trouble for not verbally responding."
"Thank you, my lady," I signed with the ghost of a smile on my face.
It wasn't long before the lady's daughters arrived, drawing my attention to them. They were all incredibly attractive, but the redhead — the one from before — seemed to keep my attention. The corner of her mouth curled into a small smirk when she saw my eyes on her again, causing me to look away quickly and try to ignore the way my heart skipped a beat. After reminding myself of how everyone reacts to finding out I'm mute, I managed to calm my heart down and focus yet again.
The lady introduced me to her daughters, adding on the fact that I was mute after her daughters said 'hello,' to me. I kept up an indifferent mask, waiting for the negative response that never came. Instead of being annoyed, the triplets asked if any documents had some basics of sign language that they could go through to learn. My heart swelled and I had to fight to keep the indifferent mask up, knowing that if I didn't, I wouldn't be able to stop smiling.
It was nice to know that they were willing to learn, especially lady Danie—.
'No. Just because she's willing to learn, doesn't mean she'd be willing to date someone like me. I need to stop getting my hopes up...'
