'Fuck... I just got here, how has she managed to capture my heart like this?!'

The Dimitrescu family seemed to enjoy the dessert I made them, which made me happy. Isa had guided me to my room and wished me a good night before they left for their room. I took a quick bath and before I climbed into bed, I grabbed a journal to begin writing about what happened at the castle.

It didn't take long for the record-keeping to turn into writing lady Daniela's name — a heart dotting the 'i' — with a lazy smile on my face. I continued doodling her name until it was nearly impossible to keep my eyes open. Once I was tired enough, I shut and hid the journal before climbing into bed. As soon as my head connected with the pillow, I was asleep.

I woke before sunrise the next morning, getting changed into the uniform left for me. Seeing it made me wonder how early Isa starts their day. Helping them would mean someone helps with their stress, which also means they'd have more free time and I could get to know them. By the time I reached the kitchen, Isa was already halfway through making breakfast.

When I started making a plan for snacks throughout the day, Isa began to warm up to me again. They held a faint smile on their freckled face as we worked, they handed off food to the other maids once they entered the kitchen, allowing me a bit more freedom to move about as I pleased. After it was just me in the kitchen, I began humming to myself as I finished the snacks for the next few hours. I checked the list Isa gave me before grabbing a cart and setting the snacks on it.

Once everything was situated and I had some tea made for the ladies — following Isa's instructions — I began making my way to lady Bela first. She was the closest and probably the most bored out of the triplets. I followed the instructions Bela gave me; watching my step, making the occasional step louder than the previous ones, and when I finally came to a stop, pouring the tea into the teacup that held a red liquid that smelled suspiciously like copper.

'Vampires... Is it true? It would explain a lot... No, vampires and such are just myths. Yeah, I'll tell myself that to not freak out.'

It didn't take long for lady Bela to round the corner, her gold eyes darker than when I last saw them. Considering she patrols the basement, I figured it would be draining — but not this draining. When her eyes landed on the cart of sweets and tea, lady Bela's eyes began glowing in the darkness and before I knew it, she was next to the cart while reaching for the teacup. I happily handed her the teacup, allowing a smile to tug at the corners of my lips when she visibly relaxed after taking a sip.

Lady Bela let out a content sigh before she tried one of the donuts. She froze for a moment, her pupils enlarging at the taste. I nervously bounced on my heels, watching as she began eating the donut again with a smile on her face. Lady Bela took another sip of tea before she spoke.

"The donuts are amazing," Lady Bela hummed as she picked up another one. "You're very skilled. Even professionals have issues using our substitution, but you don't seem to have any issues. It's like you already know what needs to be replaced and how to get the right consistency of the replacement."

"I guess the baking gods blessed me," I signed and offered her a smile. "I'm not sure how I do it, honestly. It's like I'm a different person when I'm baking — half of the recipes I use, I'm not sure how I know."

"Fascinating," Lady Bela muttered before smiling. "If you know any recipes that are extra sugary, Dani really loves those."

"What about lady Cassandra?"

"She likes bittersweet things, but we all very much enjoy the extra sugary ones. Especially if it's done correctly, which I believe you can do. Are you up for the challenge?"

"You've got yourself a deal, my lady. How long do I have?"

"We'll give it a week," Lady Bela hummed and took another sip of tea. "That should give you time to think of options and test them out. We won't mind sampling the failures."

"Is this a way to get me to make you three sweets and snacks as often as possible for a week?"

"...No?"

I covered my mouth with my hand as I giggled, signing shortly after. "You're my boss, my lady. Had you asked, I would've agreed to make you snacks whenever you wanted one."

"Don't you have other chores to worry about?"

"According to my list, I'm to bake for your family and do anything Isa asks me to do. Other than that? I don't really have chores."

"...Interesting. Well, I'll let you go give everyone else their snack."

"I'll be sure to make extra next time so you can have more than two."

"That would be nice."

I nodded to her before leaving the basement, making my way to the opera hall where lady Cassandra said she'd be most of the day. When I got there and heard voices, I paused momentarily and noticed that both ladies Cassandra and Daniela were in the hall. The two were talking — no, practicing.

'They... They're actually learning sign?' A smile twitched upward onto my face, my heart skipping a beat. 'Lady Daniela looks so happy every time she gets one right... How cute.'

I shook that thought out of my head before knocking on the door, managing to get it open once I was given permission to enter. Once I had the cart near the sisters, I began pouring them tea. It was obvious they wanted to show me what they knew but they remained silent on the matter. After I gave them their tea, I quietly waited for their reactions, letting a smile rest on my face when they gave sounds of approval.

The last obstacle I had was lady Dimitrescu herself. Lady Bela didn't say if her taste in sweets differed from her daughter's, but I had to assume she didn't mind. When the ladies were satisfied, they let me leave to find their mother. It didn't take me long, considering the fact that she was in the process of looking for me. I followed her to her office, pouring her a cup of a tea once she sat at her desk.

"How has your first day been? Normally Isa would be more involved, but I needed them to do something for me and that will take most of their day."

"Smooth so far, my lady," I signed with a smile. "Your daughters have been amazing. No one's ever been this nice to me, especially when they know that I'm mute. You have no idea how much this means to me, my lady."

"We may be monsters, but we haven't lost that much of our humanity."
