NANDIBy the time he gets in his room I'm about to head back to mine. I've obviously been waiting up and WHEN I heard them come in I relaxed. I guess that's one thing his mother and I have in common. I went out and told Sli I'd be back and I've been here for a while.
"You're still up?" He asks when he walks in, he looks exhausted.
"Yeah, I wanted to see you before I went to bed, this is kind of strange," I say and he smiles lazily. He then walks over to where I am and pecks my cheek.
"I know thando lwami, more of a reason look forward to going back to our own house huh?" He pecks my lips this time.
"I can't wait," I yawn.
"You didn't have to wait up for me. I don't want you exhausting yourself like this,"
"It's nothing really, besides, I wouldn't sleep well knowing that you're here and I'm going to sleep without seeing you,now I can go to bed," I start walking but he pulls me back to his arms, he kisses me slowly, savoring each moment then cups my face with his hands" Ngiyakuthanda uyezwa?" [I live you, you hear?]
I nod at this" I love you too, goodnight, "
" Goodnight, "
I tiptoe back to the room I'm sharing with Sli and when I walk in she gives me a look of disapproval
" Hayi shame, I'm disappointed, I'm very disappointed. Infact, I should have locked this door and forced you to sleep with you husband because what nonsense is this?"
"Goodnight, Sli," I get in bed and pull the blankets up, I don't have energy for her.
"So he's going going to sleep with her? And you allowed it?"
"He's sleeping alone,"
"Ngoba wena ulapha, [Because you're here] instead of there with him strutting your stuff and screaming loud enough for her to hear, if I were you-"
"Well you're not me, Slindile. Now goodnight,"
"Shuu, no need to bite my head off, I'm not the one who told you to settle for a man you have to share, now you can't even get some because the other madam is under the same roof,"
"Did you end up getting hold of Xolani?" I change the topic.
"No, he's probably had an early night,"
"Or the other madam is there and he can't talk,"
"Nandi, don't bore me, don't even start,"
"See how it feel when I butt in your business, now you know how your annoying me,"
"Fine, let's sleep. But for the record, Xolani is faithful and he loves only me, I don't have to share him,"
"Mhh-hm," I hum in response and just like that, Lights out.
LULAMA
The sunrays coming through the curtains and Adi's loud snoring wakes me up. I'm a little on edge waking up in this new environment and I'm quickly reminded that I need to get myself in line if I'm going to survive this weekend.
I look over at Adi and contemplate waking her up but I decide against it, then I consider texting Bangizwe, I also decide against it, he could still be in bed with Nandi and I'd hate to start the morning on a sour note so I lay up staring at the ceiling thinking of what to do.
This is a village, and the village girl in me knows that firstly, I cannot oversleep like I'm at home, secondly, it's wise to get done with the chores before little miss sunshine decides to start roasting us on earth so I quietly get up from the bed. I change into a dress and sandals before remebering my way to the bathroom with my toiletry back and cellphone.
