NARRATED POV
She looks at the small black plastic that's just been thrown in her table then she looks up at her father
"What's this?"
"A little motivation to get Bangizwe where you want him,"
"Baba-"
"Uyehluleka [You're failing] Nomshado and this is me stepping in to help as always. You can never get anything right, can you?"
"I was going to see someone about this when I got time,"
"What time? Time doesn't come to you, you avail yourself to it. Inkinga ukuthi [The problem is that] you're too relaxed, you're very relaxed Nomshado and I don't know where you get this kind of behavior. Do you think taking it easy is what got me to where I am today? If you want something bad enough then you need to fight for it, this lazying around will not help you with anything. Did you even know that he's getting married next week? "
" I know, "
" Are you invited? "
" We are not friends, baba. I've already explained to you that Bangizwe shields his personal life with everything that he's got. I don't think even their company staff members are invited, "
" Then you should have made a plan. You should have befriended one of the wives, anything to get you in but well, it appears you still have a lot to learn. When is your next meeting with him? "
" Tomorrow, "
" Then ask him to meet him at my pub and make sure he drinks this, all of it,"
"What does it do?"
"What do you think it does? Are you that slow?"
"Cha [No] I'm just trying to understand if this is safe,"
"We need him alive in order to be your husband, of course it's safe and it will give you three days to work your magic, don't waste that time and Nomshado, this is it. I don't want any more disappointments,"
He walks out of her office before she can even respond. Sure she was thinking it but isidliso sothando [love potion] ? Can she do this? She's heard of how men can easily be turned into puppets by this, how they agree to anything and everything. He could even walk out on his two wives if she tells him to.
She takes the small plastic in her hand and inspects it, something about it is thrilling, it sends her heart and blood on a rush. With a single consumption of this, he could be hers. Her mind starts working overtime and she begins to imagine just how great they can be together. A real power couple a king and his queen. She could be the next Mrs. Mdlalose. Her father is right, she needs to stop slacking.
She has mixed feelings about this so she decides to go home a d speak to her mother about it. Maybe a woman's perspective will help. Mpungose is all about results, he doesn't care what else happens as long as he gets results and she just needs someone to help her see if this is really a path worth taking.
With no meetings left for the day, she checks out early so she can get to her parents house before Mpungose gets home. She doesn't want him anywhere near this conversation because she knows that her mother will be quick to side with him if he's there. She's the type that always agrees with and supports her husband. He can never be wrong, he is her God.
"Ma," She yells out entering the house "Ma," She repeats when there's no response.
"Awukhathali ukumemeza?" [Don't you get tired of yelling?] Her mother responds from the living room. She finds her sitting on the couch then she puts her arms around her from behind
