On the last day of term, Percy sat waiting outside Yancy for Maisie and Grover to join him.  After Mr. Brunner had basically called him a hopeless freak in front of the whole class, he was ready to just go home and see his mom.

He spotted Maisie clumsily coming down the steps of the school, struggling to hold her backpack and duffel bag that seemed to have a broken strap.

"Need any help?" He asked, silently laughing at her.

"No, that's okay," She waved him off. Her body leaning heavily to the left, thrown off from the weight of the duffel bag. The broken strap hung to the ground, getting caught on her ankle, causing her to wobble on the last step. She shot out her arms to grasp Percy's shoulders to catch herself, while Percy hands instinctively grabbed her elbows.

"You okay?" He asked.

"Mhm, sorry," She answered, smiling sheepishly.

She dropped her bags to the ground and rolled her shoulder to ease the pain the strap from the bag had caused.

"You got everything?" Percy asked.

"Yup. Think so," She nodded looking at her stuff.

"Didn't forget Flipper, did you?" he teased, a smirk playing at his lips.

Maisie dramatically groaned. Flipper was a stuffed dolphin that she'd had since she was four.  And although she would be turning thirteen come October, she still could not sleep properly without it.

"Leave me and my dolphin alone Percy. And no, I did not forget him," She said indignantly.

Her attitude faltered a second later, and she quickly bent down to unzip her backpack just to make sure Flipper was there, all while Percy chuckled at her.

"Have you talked to Grover today?" Maisie asked, zipping up her backpack.

"No," said Percy, "But he said the other day he'd be taking the bus." Percy looked at her while she nodded. Her eyes were sunken in and tired, and he was sure he had a similar look about him as-well.

"You good?" He asked pointing to his eyes as an indicator.

"Mm? Oh yeah! Just didn't sleep great."

Percy knew however that this was likely not due to her regular insomnia.

"Me neither," He said. Neither one of them had to say the real reason. Nightmares.

Percy saw Grover coming down the steps towards them. Still put off by Grover's strangeness as of late, he avoided looking at him and instead craned his neck to see the Greyhound approaching down their street.

"Rides here. Let's go," He picked up Maisie's bag off the ground and threw it over his other arm, making his way towards the vehicle. Maisie followed behind him with a smile.
