Marcus listened to Alexa and Anya talking about him for a few more minutes until he walked off to the boys' locker room in the gym building to change into his basketball jersey. As he entered, he found Oscar leaning against a nearby bench, adjusting his sneakers. He told Oscar what he had heard from the girls.

"Dude, you won't believe what I just overheard," Marcus said, a playful grin spreading across his face.

Oscar looked up, intrigued. "What is it now, my bro?"

"Alexa was telling Anya about her ideal type in guys," Marcus replied, leaning closer, lowering his voice as if sharing a secret. "She said she likes tall, dark-haired, hunky guys who are active in nature."

Oscar wasn't surprised and put on that typical smirk he always had. "Dude, I told you she likes you. I've seen how much she stares at you when you're not looking."

Marcus chuckled, the confidence bubbling within him. "Hehe, it's no mystery I'm eye candy for her. Little kitty's gotta be prepared because a big bad wolf is gonna hunt her down."

Mischievously, he added, "I'm sure I can stop and pin her down in no time."

Back at the library, Anya had to leave Alexa because she had something important to do.

"I'm gonna have to leave now," Anya said, glancing at her watch. "I don't want to be late for yoga classes. You take care, alright, my girl?"

"Oh, okay. Good luck, and I will," Alexa replied.

"I'll be sure to text you when it's over. See ya!" Anya called back, her cheerful tone fading as she walked away.

With Anya gone, Alexa found herself at loose ends. Since lectures weren't mandatory today and class hours had devolved into public health meetings over Zoom, most students had chosen to skip. Seeking a distraction, she decided to grab something to drink from the Starbucks a short walk east of the library.

As she stood in line, she absently scrolled through her phone, waiting for her turn to order. When the barista finally looked her way, she smiled and placed her order. "A strawberry espresso, please."

"That'll be $4.50," the clerk replied.

However, in the background she heard a guy named Damon speaking to his girlfriend Olga in an aggressive manner.

"Why are you always late for everything, Olga?" he chastised, attempting to lower his voice but failing to conceal his anger.

"I'm sorry, Damon... I had to put on makeup before going out," Olga replied, her voice wavering.

"Shut up! Come outside with me!" Damon snapped, his temper escalating.

Alexa turned around and watched them head outside whilst waiting on her drink to be ready. Outside, Damon's tone grew angrier by the second to the point he was nearly yelling.

"I seriously think you're making up excuses for everything! You must be cheating on me behind my back, bitch!"

"Damon, stop it! I'm so tired of you being overbearing and rageful over everything I do," Olga protested.

"Why are you always so defensive?!" he shouted, the words echoing off the nearby buildings.

In a moment of chilling clarity, he raised his hand and struck her across the face.

"Say that again!" Damon growled, his expression twisted with rage. "When I say 'meet me on time,' it's not a gesture! It's a command!"

"We're in public, and you're embarrassing me with your drama queen tantrums!" he continued, oblivious to the looks of shock from passersby.
