"Son of a bitch! Son of a bitch!" I hear my brother's voice shout from the other room, shattering the peaceful atmosphere of the living room. Where I'm currently lounging on the couch and my mom in her rocking chair with our cat Mews curled up on her lap.

A police chase rocked downtown Pittsburgh earlier this evening...

Dustin obnoxiously comes rushing into the living room, flipping up the yellow couch cushions.

"Another stupid penny," He mumbles to himself tossing the rusted piece of copper that was in his hand.

"Dusty, watch it!" Our mom calls out, holding our cat tight, "You almost hit Mews."

"And your sister." I grumble, from my spot.

"Can I check your cushions?" Dustin asks me desperately so I decide to play with him.

"No."

"Move." Dustin demands, attempting to push me off the couch.

"Jeez, it was a joke. I'm going, I'm going." I mutter before getting up letting Dustin check under the couch cushion I was seated on, "What are you even doing?"

Dustin doesn't respond but then I remember. He's meeting the party at the arcade and I have to go with him.

I let out an exasperated groan.

"Can I please check under your cushions?" Dustin asks our mother with a pleading look on his face.

"Dusty."

"Mom, please..." Dustin begs, "It's an emergency."

"Ughh." My mom whines before standing up with Mews in her arms.

"Ughhhh." Dustin makes the same petty noise back at her.

"Dustin, I have some quarters I can give you." I roll my eyes at my family's antics as they carry on.

I make my way to my room, quickly grabbing a couple quarters from my piggy bank. Before returning to the living room, where Dustin has already collected two more.

"Honey, you're going with your brother, right?" My mom asks from her chair, which she must've returned to.

"Yeah." I sigh, still standing in the middle of the hallway, fantasizing about a night curled up in bed with a good book or magazine.

But that wasn't going to happen.

"(Y/n)? You coming?" Dustin waves his hand frantically in front of my face, "Or are you busy dreaming about Steve?" He comments with a smirk before walking towards his room.

"Oh shut up." I say with the roll of my eyes and another quiet sigh as I follow my brother

Dustin had been bothering me constantly ever since he found out about the necklace that I wear around everywhere is what Steve gave me for Christmas. It feels like no matter what I'm doing, there's always a question or stupid comment about Steve and our relationship. Dustin just can't quite wrap his head around the fact that Steve and I are best friends and nothing more. Especially since he's still dating Nancy.

"What's that?" Dustin asks, pointing at what I think is something behind me.

I whip my head around trying to find the thing that my brother is pointing at.

"No, what's this?" Dustin asks again, pointing at my neck.

"Uh... Just a gift." I say, not wanting to give away the original buyer of the necklace.

"From Steve?" Dustin asks, with a smug look on his face.

"No...?" I respond, covering my neck, where the necklace rests.
