Lena's POV
" I knew I knew you from somewhere. I'm Tilar. This is Lena." She said as she reached out to shake his hand.
" I'm Kendal and this is my buddy Tyler." Tyler laughed at their names and she giggled.
" So what happened to you?" I asked him ignoring Tilar's girlish laughter.
" Oh. The attackers." He pursed his lips and I laughed.
" What about you?" He asked me nodding to my arm.
" Same. How come I haven't seen you around?" I asked him turning so my feet hung off of the bed.
" I'm an instructor. I'm always cooped up in some training or testing room. I've seen you around, though."
" Oh." Was all I managed to say. I didn't know what to say to someone like him. He seemed so intimidating.
" So, uh," He looked away nervously and rubbed the back of his head with his free hand.
" I wonder what's going on out there?" I asked listening closely to the sounds outside the door. There were still shouts and even banging on the door. How come no one was letting them in? " John , there are still people out there. Let them in." I told him.
" Lena, what if some of those people are the attackers?"
" I'll take my chances." I said and stood up to walk over to the safe door.
" Lena. No. I am not risking everyone's life out there." He shouted at me.
"You don't have to. Let me go out there." I suggested .
" You're crazy if you think I would let you do that." He argued. I was going to win this.
" There are innocent people out there that are probably hurt and scared. No more people can die." I cried.
" She's right, sir." Kendal spoke on behalf. " I know it's crazy for her to go out there alone, but let her take someone with her." He said stepping up to John.
He sighed and shook his head in disbelief. " Fine." I sighed a sigh of relief. We actually had a chance at saving someone's life.
" Mikell, Lena, and Tyler. Guy Tyler. You can go." Tyler jumped up, Mikell falling behind. Mikell kissed Tilar and fell in behind the other Tyler.
" She's hurt , though." Kendal chimed in.
" So are you. And this was her idea."John retorted.
"At least let me go to help."
I felt relieved that my friend was going,Mikell , I was also glad that Kendal spoke up. Either he wanted to help or he just wanted to go because of me.
" Okay. You can go too, but you all better come back." John gave in. " Since we only have one weapon. I'm counting on you to use your abilities."
" Got it." Mikell said and after all was said we left the safe. The door was quickly shut behind us. We took the first step outside and guns went off. My heart skipped a beat and we took off down a hallway.
Three children sat shaking with fear in a corner. One was bruised and another looked cut. Mikell walked up to them and coaxed them to come with us. Just as we were about to leave two men came down the hallway and spotted us. We bolted for the nearest door and went inside. We took cover against a wall and waited for the two men to come in.
Three minutes felt like years as we waited for them to come in. When they never did we felt it safe for us to leave. We crept past opened doors and vacant hallways. No one spotted us until a woman, maybe mid fourties, saw us with the children and ran after us. She was dressed in an old military outfit. She had a leather handle knife. Like she made it herself.
" Which way is the safe room?" Tyler asked us as he picked up one of the little kids.
" We can't lead her to everyone else." I said to him looking back
to check to see if she was still after us. When I saw that she was I grabbed one of the children and swung them into my arms. She was surprisingly light and easy to carry. It helped me a lot with my arm." What's the plan?" Mikell asked us picking the other child up.
" I'll take care of her." Kendal offered stopping to face her.
I didn't have time to object I just wanted to get out of here. With the children still in my arms and wailing, I bolted through a nearby door and caught my breath. Tyler and Mikell sat the kids down and took a long breath.
" Where did everyone go?" Tyler asked between breaths.
"I have no clue. How did they leave these kids behind?" I replied.
" Why did they leave them behind?" Mikell asked gazing around the room.
" Who knows maybe we should ask the kids." Tyler suggested jabbing his thumb behind his back.
" Yeah." I said and walked up to one of them. I kneeled next to the little girl who sucked her thumb anxiously. She couldn't have been more than seven years old maybe six. The rest looked about five or so.
" Do you know where my mommy is?" She asked tears glistening in her eyes. I almost wanted to cry. She looked so sad and pitiful. I always had a soft spot for children.
" We will find your mommy." I promised. She smiled and wrapped her slender frail arms around my neck. " Do you know what happened to her?" I pressed.
" Some guy with big guns grabbed her and taked her to some dark room. He did that to lots of people. "
" Okay." I promised again and stood up to go see what Tyler got out of the little boy.
" Were you able to get anything from the girl?" Mikell asked as I joined with Tyler.
" She said that a guy with a big gun took her mom and a lot of other people to a dark room." I explained.
" Well the little boy is set on that his mom and dad were taken by a big guy with a monster gun and that they were dragged away by him." Tyler explained as he walked back over to us.
" Sounds similar to the girl's story I would say. We just need to find the dark room. Maybe they have hostages." I guessed.
" We need to take the kids to the safe room first." Tyler suggested.
" I'll do it." Mikell offered raising his hand.
" Great. Tyler and I can go find Kendal and see if we can find the room. If you come across any more people take them with you." I explained. Mikell nodded and picked up the smallest boy.
" Please be careful Mikell. Tilar needs you." I said as he started to leave. He nodded and gave me a friendly hug. That was his way of saying I promise without actually saying it.
" You be careful too and make sure our parents are okay." He requested.
" I will." At those last words he walked out with the children in arms.
" Okay. We should start looking for him."
" Yeah. Hey, are your parents here too?" I asked him before he could leave.
His face sunk and he dropped his head. " No. I was put here because my parents died."
" Oh." I regret asking him now. My dad was probably in that room, and who knows who else was in there.
When we were first kidnapped we went through a test and after it was over our parents were moved in here. They live here with us. We weren't really kidnapped, we were just tricked into believing we were. So that way they could test us on our full ability.
" Hey. It's okay. I'm happy being here, I just wish I could share my experience with my family."
" I know how you feel."
" Do you?"
" Yeah. My mom died a while back, so it's just me and my father."
" You know Kendal can relate. You should ask him about it when we find him." As he said that he led me out into the hallway where we found three men and that one lady starring right at us.
