The Future: Specials

Chapter 8

Tonya's POV

Sometimes Lena, Tilar, and Mikell just can't stay still. Danielle is the only sensible one in this group. I swear no matter what I say all they hear is 'blah blah blah do it'. It drives me crazy. Especially Lena. She can't stay still to save her life.

" What are you thinking about?" Lena asked sitting next to me.

" You and everything else." I said.

" Well, I'm about to go see if we can find this 'dark room'. I would appreciate it if you wouldn't object to me going." She said with apologetic eyes.

I sighed. " I won't object as long as I get to go with you."

Lena rolled her eyes and huffed. " No. I am not taking you." I tried to object to that, but Lena kept talking. " I've already got Mikell and Danielle coming. I don't need any more of my friends."

" Let me rephrase my sentence; I won't object because I am coming with you." I retorted.

" And I say you aren't. Tonya."

" I don't need your permission." I argued. I loved Lena to death, but sometimes she doesn't understand that she can't control everyone.

" You know what fine. I have someplace to be." Lena stormed away and I just chuckled. I love it when she does that. She thinks that I'll listen or I'll bounce back, sometimes I do just for her, but other times I don't so she'll end up bouncing back to me.

I waited for her to come back, but she didn't and that meant that I was going to end up bouncing back.

I just ended up walking to the safe door and waiting for what was next to come. Lena looked at me and smiled her you-know-i-love-you smile. I smiled back.

" If you find any people bring them to the safe immediately. Make sure you find that dark room and most importantly..." He paused." Come back unscathed.". For an instructor he put forth a lot of emotion. He cared about us more than he let on.

After his words of wisdom we lined up and the safe was opened. It was Lena, Mikell, Danielle, Kendal, Tyler, and I. We didn't need weapons , we had our abilities. With my super speed, Lena's telekinesis, Mikell's shape shifting, Tyler's super strength, Danielle's healing , and Kendal's... I don't know what his ability was, beside him we were a recipe for disaster.

" We should split up." Danielle suggested.

" That's a bad idea." I retorted.

" We can cover more round that way." Kendal added.

" Still. One half could get captured or worse and then where would we be." Mikell spoke.

" I think Mikell is right. We would do better as a group. All of us together could take out an entire army." Lena said and quickly added. "Not that we would want to or anything." She grinned sheepishly . I laughed and shook my head.

" We need to stay together." Tyler said chiming in.

" So it's settled then, we stay together." I added clapping my hands together.

" Let's go then. Who wants to lead?"

" I will." Said Lena and Kendal together.

" They will." I pointed to try and get things moving on.

Without another word we went down the right hallway. I knew what we were all thinking, we all hoped we weren't going to run into anything.

" So how are we going to find this ' dark room'?" Danielle put dark room in quotes.

" Well we need to look for a room that's dark." I replied smartly.

" Well no shit. Smartass." Lena fired.

" Just trying to lighten the mood."

" I know." She smiled wide. I rolled my eyes playfully.

Despite all of the things we did to each other we were more than friends. All of us were like that. I'd always been closer to Lena than to any of the rest, but that's probably just my attachment. However, Lena seemed equally close to Tilar and I, Danielle and Mikell were friends before they knew me. All four of them were friends before I came along. It's all too complicated for me to explain. I don't even think I remember all of the story, but that didn't matter now.

" Guys, what is that?" Kendal asked pointing to something in front of him.

A humanly figure stood in our way. He was dark skinned and I would have mistaken him for an animal if I hadn't seen his face first. His legs were large and muscular, his arms were that way too. He basically looked like a hairless gorilla standing at eight feet tall. It was a horrifying sight.

" Oh my god." Lena said shocked.

" How are we supposed to take that thing down?" I whispered in Tyler's ear.

" Teamwork." He replied clenching his fists. I planted my feet firmly on the ground and Mikell took in a deep breath. Like I said before, we were a recipe for disaster.

" Let's do this." Kendal said.

As he said that the large man monster charged at us. He swung his arms back and forth hitting Danielle, swiping him to the side. He hit the wall with a hard thud.

Tyler got in a few good hits that seemed to phase him a little, but not enough to knock him back.

" This thing doesn't seem phased by anything we've done." Tyler said pulling back to catch his breath.

" I see that." Lena retorted shaking her head. We weren't advanced yet in our abilities so we couldn't do as much damage as other Specials can.

" We need a plan." I suggested placing my hands on my knees to try and catch my breath.

" How are we going to do that?" Shot Mikell stepping back from the monster.

" Kendal, what is your ability?" I shouted at him.

" I can't tell you that." He shouted back trying to avoid the monsters fist.

" I need to know. We need your help in this."

He sighed and shook his head.

" Tyler. What is his ability?" I was angry now and I wanted this to be over with. " Either you tell me or so help me I won't drop kick you all the way to what's left of Thailand."

His eyes widened and he smirked. " Because I know what you say is true I would tell you, I promised him I wouldn't tell anyone." He said dodging the giant hand.

" Dammit Tyler." I sped out of the way when I saw the hand rain down again.

" Just tell me Kendal." Just as I said that Lena ran over to me and whispered something in my ear. I grimaced at Kendal and he gave a sheepish smile.

He could save us.
