Jackson's POV

A booming noise sounded as everything exploded. I felt the searing heat on my back and debris fall on me. A petrified Rami shook beneath me as I made sure nothing hit her.

I told myself that this was what had to happen. This camp had to be destroyed even if I go down with it. I wanted to be a hero to those that mattered and maybe now I would finally be accepted. I'm better dead than alive right?

My thoughts were interrupted when something fell on me. Something hard. It landed on my leg, but something told me to stay in the position I was in. I didn't want to frighten Rami than she was already was.

Ringing. That was all I heard after the explosion. I continued to stay in my position, though, until I was sure that it was safe. Well, as safe as it was going to get.

Rami crawled out from underneath me and stood up looking around. I rolled on my back and took a deep breath. I felt excruciating pain in my back and legs. Rami towered above me and shook me.

I groaned in pain and she shook her head.

" No no no." She rubbed her forehead and kneeled next to me.

" I'm fine." I breathed. Biggest lie I ever told.

" Your leg. Let me see your back." She told me.

I rolled on to my side. Pain shot through my body and made me cry out in pain.

" Oh my god." She said.

" That bad?" I ask rolling back over. Which only made it worse.

" I-I'm so sorry. You should have just left me there. Why did you save me, I don't even know your name?"

" Jackson."

She looked at me. " What?"

" My name is Jackson."

" Oh. I'm so sorry Jackson."

" Don't be." I shook my head and held out my hand. " Help me up."

" No. You can't walk. No." She says frantically.

" We have to get out of here somehow." I say wincing at my movements.

" I'll go get help. Just please, stay." She looked all around her not meeting my eyes.

" Be careful, Rami." I say taking a deep breath.

I felt so helpless. So vulnerable. I normally don't ever feel like that, but now having my flesh melted off of me and my leg crushed it gives you a certain feeling.

" You're gonna die." She says to me.

" I know." I say.

" That's why you wanted me to leave because you knew weren't coming out of here alive?" She asks kneeling beside me.

I clenched my jaw. She was right.

" Yeah."

Every breath hurt, my back throbbed and she knew it. She saw right through my disguise.

" I can't just leave you here. Okay, I need to get you out of here somehow." She stood up and wiped away her tears.

She was so...beautiful. Though dirty and blood smeared, she was gorgeous.

" Don't try and help me. It'll only make it worse." I say closing my eyes.

" I won't leave you. If you die it'll be my fault and I can't have that weighing on me forever." She cries.

" Just go see if you can find help. That's all I'm asking." I say.

" O-okay. I'll be back I- I promise." She says giving my hand a tight squeeze.
