Chapter 27

Tilar's POV

" They're gone, Mikell!" I paced the floor twisting my hands in anticipation. Lena, Kendal, or Jackson have gone missing and we haven't heard a word from them in two weeks. They could be dead, or worse. " For all we know they could be dead. Oh my God. Lena is dead. What am I gonna do?" I started to breathe heavy and my pacing got faster.

" Calm down, okay." Mikell gently wrapped me in his arms in a tight embrace. "You know good and well that Lena is not dead. She is too good for that. You know this." Mikell shook me a little and pulled back to look at me.

" Lena is fine and I'm sure the rest are too." Mikell says to me and kisses my forehead.

" But what if they aren't? What if something bad happened? Mikell, if something happened to my best friend I would die. I love her too much and I just let her make a stupid mistake." I scoffed. " All to save Jackson. Should have just left him there."

" I can not believe you right now. Listen to yourself. This isn't Jackson's fault. She made that decision to save him. Because she's just that selfless." He retorts.

" I thought you hated Jackson anyways. Why do care what I say about him?" I say a bit too loudly. This was our first argument and it was over Lena.

" Maybe not as much anymore, but even if I did i wouldn't blame him for Lena's decision. She made it and that's that. It isn't your fault, it isn't Jackson's, and sure isn't hers." Mikell rubbed his face and walked around me.

" What's wrong with you? I've never seen you like this before." I softly sweep my hand over his cheek. He jerks away and turns away. I step back, hurt by his words and actions.

" Tilar," He pauses and turns to look at me. " I love you. I do, so much." He takes my face into his hands. " Lena was my friend too. She's family, as is Tonya, and Danielle. Now that Danielle is gone it's different. It doesn't feel like a family anymore. With Kendal and Jackson and Tyler it feels even different. It doesn't feel like home anymore. To me they seem like replacements. You can not replace Danielle!" He yells and shoved his fist into the wall. Thank God it wasn't concrete or he would have been hurt.

" No one said they were replacing him, Mikell. I miss Danielle too. He was my family just as much as he was yours. Mikell," I walk over to him and wrap him in a hug.

He smelled like outside and fresh air. I loved that smell. He made me fe safe and loved and now it felt like he wasn't even there. Though, he was in my arms. He's distant and so far away, but yet so close.

" I'm leaving, Tilar. John has assigned me to Washington. He said he needs insight on what's going on down there. I'm leaving in a couple of days." Mikell pulls back and looks into my eyes. They looked tired and sad. He had dark circles and bags under them. They were a deep shade of blue with a hint of brown in them. They used to be so full of light, but now they shone no longer.

" What?" Is all I manage to say to him.

" They need me down there and I have to go. I'm sorry, Tilar." He takes my hand and lightly squeezes it. He gives me a small smile. That can only mean one thing.

" No. You aren't about to do what I think you are, right?" I could feel my lip quiver and tears fall down my face.

" Tilar." His eyes begin to glisten with tears as well. I jerk my hand away.

" Fine. You have to go. So go. I understand." I say and quickly wipe away my tears.

" Tilar, you know-"

" I don't care about what you have to say." I say cutting him off. " I don't want your apology or an excuse as to why you are breaking up with me. Let's just leave it at this, okay? We both know it'll be easier that way." I kiss him on his cheek and turn to walk away. As I walk down the hallway I didn't hold my tears back. I let them come. I wanted to drown in them. I didn't care. I wanted to scream until I couldn't anymore.
