CHAPTER TEN
A CALL from her ninang Daria wakes her up. Gumalaw si Rashid sa tabi niya pero nanatili namang nakapikit ang mga mata habang yakap siya.
Nang makita niya ang oras, ay ala-singko palang ng umaga. Natapos ang tawag na hindi niya nasagot. A follow text message popped up after the ring.
From: Ninang Daria
Valeska! Ang mommy mo nagwawala! Nandito kami sa barangay dahil nireklamo na ng mga kapitbahay niyo. Kailan ka ba uuwi? Pasensya ka na inaanak at maagang istorbo ito sayo.
Humiga siya patagilid para hindi ma-istorbo si Rashid sa ilaw ng screen ng cellphone niya. His heavy arm remained on her waist.
She could imagine her mother being scandalous even she's in the barangay and surrounded by authorities. Nawala na ang antok niya at hindi maiwasan ang mag-alala.

Sa itsura ni Amalia halatang nakabatak. Pati ako parang hindi na kilala. Kapag hindi pa siya tumigil ikukulong siya dito sa barangay sabi ni hepe.
Valeska heaved a sigh.
Her mother is her pain in the ass. Her mom made her life miserable and problematic most of the time. Malimit lang siyang makaramdam ng kasiyahan kapag nasa bahay siya nila kaya mas pinipili niyang huwag nalang manatili roon hanggat pwede sana.
She typed a reply.
To: Ninang Daria
Uuwi po ako ngayong umaga. Pwede po bang wag mong iwan si mommy? Wait for me, ninang.
Ang plan niya sana ay magpapractice muna ulit siya ng shooting bago umuwi ng Pampanga. Kaya lang hindi niya naman kayang ipagsawalang bahala nalang ang nangyayari sa ina.

Hindi ko naman kayang iwan itong si Amalia. Kahit na ganito itong mommy mo, kaibigan ko pa din naman. Hinahanap ka nga e kaya napatawag ako sayo. Naghihintay ng pera na ibibigay mo daw. Totoo ba? O isa lang sa mga ilusyon ni Amalia?
Napapikit siya at muling humugot ng hangin sa dibdib. Hindi siya nangako sa mommy niya na magbibigay siya ng pera at nakakasama ng loob na umaasa ito at nagwawala pa dahil lang yata sa pera.
Rashid moved behind her. Inaantok na sinilip siya nito at huli na para itago ang cellphone niya.
"What are you doing?" His bed voice was raspy and at the same time, sexy.
"I need to go home."
His embrace tightened. Their body heat under the duvet is what keeps her calm and composed. Baka kung hindi siya yakap yakap ni Rashid, magpapanic na naman siya at aalis agad para puntahan ang ina.
"Why's sudden?"
She doesn't want to tell him her real reason because it's too early for a bad news. Besides, it wasn't his concern anymore. It's her own problem that she needs to deal with.
"We have an important meeting about our graduation. B-bukas pa sana 'yon but they moved today." She bite the inside of her cheek for lying.
"Alright. I'll drive you home-"
"H-hindi na. I can just ride a taxi from here. And you have a meeting this morning, di ba?"
He grunted and hugs her more.
His action put a small smile on her lips. She just discovered that he likes cuddling in bed. He's very touchy too. But he wasn't when they are in front of other people. Baliktad naman sila. She likes a physical touch when they are outside and she does it absentmindedly.
