The talk Aizawa had with Izuku on the roof turned out to be highly beneficial, more often he would speak to either of the men he was living with. Before their conversations were just about the necessary. Now though Izuku felt safe enough to have both normal conversations and bring up things that bothered him.
Much as the majority of his mind would prefer it if his life went back to how it was before he learned the truth. Even he cant deny how nice it is to feel safe and cared for. The conviction with which Aizawa had told him that they would listen if he told them about anything had broken down that last cautious barrier Izuku was holding on to.
The first things he brought up to either Aizawa or Yamada were small and meant to test the waters. Like sharing his love for fish with them. Izuku expected it to be met with light teasing for his feline tastes still. Instead and much to his delight a fish dish was added as a regular thing once a week.
He brought up his need to sleep in something enclosed and dark to comply with their request to fully relax at sleeping hours. Izuku had thought at most they would let him construct a nest of sorts in the cupboard, but they insisted on remodeling his bedroom. What's more, instead of taking over like he expected, they intentionally included him in plans on how to modify his room. He's now a proud owner of a raised bed with enough space underneath to climb into and make a nest with pillows and blankets. Aizawa particularly enjoyed installing blackout blinds in his room as well as their own bedroom.
Once he had started being more open to them they in turn felt it was okay to ask him about and for things. Izuku had expected to be put to work to earn his keep, instead they asked for his input in their wedding. He'd contributed to food selections for the guests, the font on the invitations and even on where they were going to sit. Izuku found all of it quite ridiculous but couldn't help the smile on his face as he had helped.
The wedding itself was quite an ordeal for Izuku. He'd helped with the seating chart so naturally he knew how many people there were going to be. Knowing and experiencing though were quite different things as it turned out. Izuku hadn't been around that many people all at once before. All day long loud noises and the drone of human chatter had him on edge. He tried his best to endure but by the time reception had come around almost unconsciously he had shifted and found himself in the lap of Aizawa.
Somewhere along the way he had fallen asleep and woke up on his bed surrounded on either side by the newly married couple. Panic struck him, did he ruin their wedding by being a needy brat?! His erratic breathing must have woken Aizawa up as he was rubbing circles on his back trying to regulate Izuku's breathing. "Breathe Izuku, like we've done before one two three In and Four five six Out. That's it, easy now." He kept this up until Izuku was back to breathing on his own. Only now tears slipped down the boy's cheeks as he struggled to say "I'm sorry..."
"Shh, shh there's nothing to be sorry for kitten" Aizawa told him wiping a stray tear.
It didn't work as tears fell harder now and concentration was needed to understand that Izuku had cried out "b-but i r-ruined your w-wedding"
Yamada squeezed his shoulder saying "You did nothing of the sort Izuku. Loads of kids fall asleep at weddings."
Aizawa nodded "precisely, besides who can say no to snuggling a cat no matter the time?!" sounding almost offended that anyone would even consider doing something like that.
Izuku looked between the two and saw no sign that either of them were upset. "W-what about the dance? And the cake? And all the other stuff you guys planned."
Aizawa tilted his head. "We did all of those Izuku... You slept so peacefully, nobody could wake you up so I left you in my jacket on my chair. Either me or Zashi went to check on you every so often. Is this what you were so upset about? Did you think we stopped the whole wedding? Oh kitten..."
Izuku felt immensely and immediately better, causing him to lunge at Aizawa and wrap his arms around his neck. "Yes! I thought I ruined everything you guys had planned."
Yamada joined in on the hug and in Izuku's ear softly told him. "Even if we didn't get to do all the things we did, you still wouldn't have ruined the wedding little listener. The most important part was the joining ceremony and both of us were so glad you were there to see it."
Izuku cried again but for another reason entirely now. Yamada pulled back thinking he said something wrong but Izuku turned around to hug him instead. "I'm sorry I had a sort of barrier between us. It's silly but Zashi sounded so much like my dad's name. I know you aren't anything like him. So can I call you Zashi again?"
Zashi let his own tears drip and nodded "You can call me whatever you're comfortable with and there's definitely no need to apologize okay."
This brought up a bigger thing Izuku has been wanting to ask the pair. "Can..." he started but cut himself off, not sure how to phrase it.
Aizawa positioned himself next to Zashi to better see Izuku. "Go on kitten. If you ask, we'll listen, remember?" he prompted the boy
Izuku nodded and steeled himself. "What's going to happen to me?" he finally asked
It's something that's been bothering him since a few lessons ago with Nezu. The chimera had managed to legally bring him back from the dead. Officially he's enrolled as a homeschooled student with Nezu being his primary teacher. This brought up the issue of Izuku still being a minor. Aizawa had to use his emergency hero foster license in the meantime.
The problem with that being it was temporary. Lasting only three months or six in extreme cases. While they were not close enough for it to be a worry technically, Izuku couldn't help but wonder what's next for him. He knew now for sure what he wanted but that doesn't mean Aizawa or Zashi wanted the same thing. Sure they care, there was no doubt about that for Izuku now, but did they want him to stay?
Aizawa brought him out of his thoughts "What do you mean kitten?"
Izuku looked between the newly married couple as he said "Human rules say I can't stay here forever. Your foster license is going to run out. What happens then?"
Zashi looked at Aizawa and smiled kindly before nodding. This earned a smirk and slight sigh out of the man as he cared his hand through his hair. "We were going to wait until it was closer to the time but we don't want to let you think something is wrong for that long. So we have a question we would like to ask you first, Izuku."
"Okay...?" Izuku said cautiously
Aizawa smiled and placed a hand on Izuku's shoulder and placed the other in one of his husband's own hands when he turned his gaze to Izuku "Zashi and I were wondering when the license ran out if you would like to keep living with us, either as a continued foster or if you want we could adopt you?"
"A-adopt? Like permanently?" Izuku stuttered out in shock
"Only if you want to, Little listener, we are happy to have you around no matter how you choose it to be." Zashi said smiling
Izuku frowned in confusion as few tears managed to slip past his defenses. "Do you really want me? Why?"
"Because we love you kitten." Aizawa simply said.
"So much" Zashi added
All three of them went tumbling to the ground as Izuku pounced on both of them to hug them as he said "I love you guys too. Please adopt me"
All three of them lay there in a heap laughing reveling in their joy. The start of a real family.
