As nervous as Izuku was for taking the entrance exam, he was equally excited. Though it had more to do with the outfit he had received from uncle Maijima. It was made with a memory weave fabric, he was able to shift freely now without ending up naked. Personally Izuku has no hang ups with being in his natural state, but during the time he's lived as a human he's learned how strange other humans are. All but one, it's also the reason she's his favorite aunt. Auntie Nem. There's someone with a healthy outlook on her body, though not according to his dads.
Nonetheless he's grateful for the gift, according to Dad and Uncle Maijima memory weave fabric is insanely difficult to get approval for. Even more so given Izuku has more than one shift. Though if he has more than two is unknown.
No amount of training and trying has resulted in anything other than his normal cat shift and a somewhat dependable lion shift now. Izuku still has trouble maintaining a lion shift for more than an hour, unlike his twelve hour limit with cat shift.
This was the main reason why the consensus was reached that Izuku would take the entrance exam for recommended students. Apparently the general entrance exam is skewed towards flashy strong quirks. Izuku can, by heart, recite the ramble dad does every time it's brought up.
The same applies to Nezu who apparently has been trying to change it since dad was his student years ago. Much to the chagrin of the HPSC (Hero Public Safety Commission) who fight Nezu on every decision he makes apparently.
Izuku however didn't care either way, it's not like his dream is to become a hero. He'll be happy if he's in general education too. Learning with Nedzu has been fun and he no longer feels like some kind of visitor from another planet. He finds himself giggling sometimes when he thinks back to when the concept of a smartphone seemed strange and odd to him. So continuing his normal education is something he didn't mind working towards.
He's only really taking the heroics portion to appease his dads and Ten-Chan who made him promise to at the very least try. Izuku would often agree to things in order to make Tenya stop talking. Sometimes without even knowing what he's agreed to, resulting in him wondering why he's friends with the overly energetic boy again. He would even loudly bemoan this fact but Tenya knows Izuku actually likes him despite his annoying tendencies. He never takes him seriously, only saying Izuku's quirk is perfect for him.
The drive to U.A itself took the same time as ever but, somehow given the importance of the day it somehow felt like they practically teleported there. All too soon they were parking in Pop's spot like everyday and heading to the entrance gate. The same gate Izuku had gotten used to and now mostly ignored somehow looked imposing and grand again. The overly large building itself used to meld into the sky unnoticed, now towered over him again and seemed impossibly big.
Izuku's every instinct was telling him to shift and hide in his dad's scarf but he ignored it best he could, instead he simply walked closer to him. He's been working with a therapist on not always hiding away in his cat shift.
Though it wasn't U.A's, Izuku is sure Hound Dog is competent at his jobs... The whole fact that he's a dog though does not instill trust in Izuku at all. He apparently told his dad it's more important for a patient to fully trust their therapist when he learned they weren't using his services. It's the only thing Izuku is willing to agree with the dog on fully.
"Still feeling nervous kitten?"
Izuku only mewed, earning him an arm over his shoulder as he was pulled into a sideways hug for comfort. It's rare nowadays for Izuku to revert to making feline noises while in human form. It's only when he's truly relaxed or really stressed that he might revert to his old habits. Nobody would dare complain though when Izuku snuggles next to them and purrs freely no matter his form at the time.
In the distance Izuku spotted a head of blue hair swaying at the sharp mechanical motions its owner was performing. Izuku pitied whoever had charged up the Rule Enforcer 300™. When they got closer they saw who had unwisely decided to break a rule in Tenya's presence.
It wasn't one of the kids he was expecting to be here today. Izuku wondered if Yaoyorozu had decided to go ahead already. Todoroki was also already here and looked as distant as always. Izuku has never met either of them, only knowing about them via Tenya. Yaoyorozu went to the same private school as him and well everyone in the nation knew Number two hero Endeavor's son is starting U.A this year. The man literally never shuts up about it...
The poor guy Tenya was berating didn't look like any of the other kids they had speculated would receive recommendations. Average height leaning towards the shorter side. Blonde hair looking wild with what looked like a lightning streak of black on one side. Was it natural or dyed? Maybe this is what Tenya was going on about. Perhaps he had messed up the days and thought the general entrance exam was today? He certainly looked cute and lost.
Wait...
"Are you feeling sick kitten? You're blood red. Do you have a fever?"
Pops placed the back of his hand on Izuku's forehead. "He does feel a tad hot. Sho, maybe we can ask Nedzu to give Zuzu an extension?"
Izuku stopped looking and focused on his parents who were sounding serious about not doing the exam today. Izuku isn't sure he can handle the stress of all this again. "I-i'm fine dad, pop. Just nervous is all."
"If you're sure, kitten."
"Yes, I'm sure. Nedzu-sensei is probably waiting for you guys already. Go..."
Izuku was suddenly in a bone crushing hug from pop. "Okay, good luck. Love you Zuzu."
"Knock 'em dead kitten." His dad said with a smirk as he pulled pops away.
"Yamazawa-kun! You really should fix your tie!"
"Morning to you too Ten-Chan" Izuku sighed as he turned around and found himself nearly face to face with the boy Tenya was berating just a few moments ago. Izuku had never felt more red in his entire life. That is until the boy spoke to him.
"Your hair is really pretty, I nearly thought you were a girl until robo-cop here told me otherwise. I'd love to be able to grow my hair long but I'm too much of a klutz."
He was talking a mile a minute and Izuku was struggling to keep up. He was still trying to process the compliment and the fact that he was so close. Tenya was the one to save him though.
"You really should introduce yourself before going on like that!"
"Oh Shi... take mushrooms" he quickly corrected after Tenya had glared at him.
"You're right dude, sorry about that. I'm Denki Kaminari, though you can just call me Kami, everyone does. Nice to meet you Yamazawa-san" He was practically bouncing as he spoke. Izuku suddenly heard a ghost of his dad's voice. Stay away from loud blondes...
It also dawned on him that he's yet to speak or acknowledge Kaminari. So he went to return the greeting hoping he wouldn't stutter his words too much. Instead something much worse happened and he actually chittered as if he saw a tasty bird. Izuku wanted the ground to swallow him whole right then and there as his face seemed to find a deeper shade of red that should be possible.
Luckily Ectoplasm called them all into the classroom for the written test and Izuku was able to escape the situation that way.
