The first time Fred and I got into a real fight was his 14th birthday, aka the worst party I've ever been to. He was dating this Gryffindor girl and she had thrown him and George a big party to celebrate. I was barely invited, she told me not to get into any funny business, whatever that meant. She was a silly blonde, that just liked him for his looks, and the popularity you got while dating him. Plus she totally had him in a love potion, I could sense Amortentia a mile away.
All night I hung around Ron, who was my best friend at the time. He and I would laugh about the most random of things, and he would always cheer me up. He and Harry were in a massive fight the night prior and we just enjoyed each others company. Ron was telling me a story about Fred and George when they were little when Fred's girlfriend stood up on a table and started to make a speech.
"Thank you all so so much for coming to Freddies birthday party. And I guess Georges' too!" she joked.
There were some laughs around, but you could tell everyone felt a little awkward around her, being the fact that she basically begged everyone to come.
"I just wanted to say that I've only known this amazing amazing boy for a least a few months, but I do know that he is the best boy I've ever met!"
I rolled my eyes as I heard Ron scoff next to me.
"Is she serious with all of this? Everyone knows she cursed him, I mean, he told her multiple times that it was never gonna happen! I mean Merlin's beard how obsessed is she?"
I laughed and continued to listen to her.
"Happy Birthday Freddie!...OH and George!!" she laughed.
I threw my legs over Ron's lap and took a bite out of the slice of cake that they had gotten out. Everyone sung Happy Birthday and after we all just went into mindless chit chat. Ron and I still hung around each other, just soaking up eachothers sainess, being that everyone else had none.
"I mean, Meredith doesn't even know him, just took two seconds to whip up a love potion and slip it into his drink!" I explained. "Y'know I saw her do it!"
"Oh really?" Ron asked.
"Yea, at mealtime last Friday, she just slipped it in while he was in the loo!"
"No one calls the bathroom the loo anymore!"
"I do, cause I'm classy!" I joked.
"Oh yea terribly classy! Let's use a ridiculous name for the shitter!" He joked.
I laughed and we continued to just chill.
"I like how comfortable you are, what's this leg doing on me?"
"You would've moved it if you had a problem with it!" I protest.
"It's not a bad thing!" He defended, he was cut off when Fred came up to us.
"Oh hey guys, thanks for coming!" Fred said.
"Yeah, no problem, you are my brother after all!"
"Fortunatly!" Fred joked, catching my eye. "Didn't think you would come McFartin!"
I rolled my eyes, "Happy Birthday!" I laughed.
He pointed at Meredith, "She planned it all, she's the best!"
"Freddie do you actually like her?" Ron asked.
"Yea of course I mean, she's got nice hair, and I like her ass!" He joked.
I scoffed, "Wow, that's convincing!"
"Oh yea Win?" He stated.
"Aren't you currently dating Shawn Larke?"
"That's none of your business, and no I am not!"
"Yea, she spends most her days in the Hospital Wings actually, I doubt she has anytime for romancing!" Ron added.
"Oh yea?" Fred asked, "Why're you doing that?"
"Being Madam Pomfrey could use the help!"
"Yea but you're only doing it for the good publicity right? I mean you gotta have some gain from them anyways?"
"How dare you Fred! I am not that kind of person, I'm helping out with the people that got harmed by the Basilisk!"
"Oh, I didn't know that."
"And for your information I've always found it good to do good things without getting anything in return, no good deed goes unnoticed, and I'm doing it to help out, not for anything selfish!"
Fred looked down.
"Why don't you stop acting so much like your little girlfriend, your better than that!"
"Well you would know wouldn't you?" Fred asked, "Your the one that befriends people like that and doesn't care about her boyfriends."
I gasped. Rons face dropped as he looked away.
"Wow." I said.
"She doesn't really like you, you know that Fred? She's using you!"
"Oh and how would you know that?"
"I just do, and I just think you deserve better!"
"And that's your place to have an opinion?" He asked.
I sighed, "I'm not having this argument with you Fred."
He scoffed, "Well me either Winnifred!"
"Happy Birthday, Jerk!"
I crossed my arms and looked away. I didn't wanna see his face anyways. Fred scoffed and walked aways.
About a week after that Meredith and him broke up. Probably because George kicked him out of it. I didn't know that being cursed in a love potion made him act like her, and I know he said all those things unknowingly but they still hurt. And what was worse about it was that Fred didn't even remember that he said those things.
When Hermione ended up in the Hospital Wing I helped heal her, and that solidified things with Ron. Ron knew that he had my full trust and from then on we grew even closer. Harry ended up coming back to his senses as well, and that year we all grew even closer. So the summer after that was amazing, I got to be with my actual friends.
To this day Fred doesn't know that he said those things, so I guess we never have had a real fight. I've forgiven him since then, and just came to terms with the fact that he was being an idiot and that I was being mad at him for no reason. But Fred and I were never the same, we stopped teasing at who we were dating at the time, and we kinda drifted. My relationship with Fred was different than my relationship with the rest of the Weasleys and I never knew why, I don't think I'll ever know. I guess there's just been this invisible string that keeps him and I together. Not in a romantic way, but since then I stopped viewing him as my best friends brother, I started viewing him as more than that. I started viewing him as an actual friend, a person that I could trust, and a person that I wanted in my life.
Ron always told me that if me and him dated that it wouldn't work out, so we never really tried it before. We've always been friends, and we always will be. But Fred has always viewed me differently. I've always been Rons silly friend. I don't care how long it takes for him to stop seeing me that way, because whenever I'm with him I have a smile on my face that won't go away. Fred Weasley has been that little torn by my side all these years, and I've never gotten the chance to pluck him away. He really is my boyfriend. Space between words, boy that's a friend.
