It has been fifteen years since the fourth shinobi war and Ayame had married Gaara and started living in Suna as soon as she had given Naruto the title of Hokage. She had two kids, a girl with red hair and teal eyes like her father and a boy with black hair and onyx eyes like his mother.
"Come on, we need to go to Konoha." Ayame told the two kids. The oldest, Akane, a surprisingly calm nine year old, was the first one to come downstairs. After her, the slightly hyper active, but smart Hotaru.
"I'll have so much fun with Bolt!" Hotaru exclaimed. "We'll probably paint all over the Hokage's faces!"
"That would be Boruto's idea? He's just like his father when he was his age..." Ayame muttered.
"Really?! Am I like how you were when you were young?!" the eight year old exclaimed.
"In some ways I guess..." Ayame muttered. "But you do remind me of someone else when he was young."
"Is it Uncle Kazuki? Uncle Kazuo said he was very hyper all the time!"
"He was indeed." Ayame said, a chuckle escaping her lips.
"You're ready?" Gaara asked his wife and kids.
"We're ready, let's go." Ayame said, giving Gaara a kiss on his lips. Akane and Hotaru thought of it as disgusting, one of the little things they agreed on.
"Isn't uncle Kankuro coming?" Akane asked.
"He's waiting for us outside." Gaara replied.

After three days, they arrived in Konoha and Hotaru immediately ran off to the academy, wanting to wait outside for Boruto.
Gaara went to Temari's and Shikamaru's house, while Akane and Ayame decided to visit Kakashi first. They soon found him and he was the first one to greet the two ladies. "So, how is it going?" Kakashi asked them.
"My genin team have just become chunin, and Akane is going to the academy in Suna quite soon." Ayame said. "How are things doing here?"
Before Kakashi could answer, Gai arrived at the scene and immediately gave Akane a hug, while telling her how youthful she was. "Gai-sensei never changes, doesn't he?" Ayame questioned.
Akane broke free from Gai's hug and asked if she was allowed to go to her father again. Ayame agreed on it and soon left too, to meet up with her other friends again. She left after giving both Gai and Kakashi a hug.
She first met up with Hinata, who she had a talk with about multiple things. After that, she went to Itachi, with who she talked with too. They exchanged things concerning Sasuke. Itachi knew things Ayame didn't know, while Ayame knew things Itachi didn't know.
She went to Sakura after saying goodbye to Itachi. Sakura was happy to see her again and told her how Sarada's was doing at the academy.

Back at the Nara's house, Shikamaru wasn't home. Only Temari was. When Shikadai came home, he was surprised to see Gaara, Ayame and Akane.
"You've grown." Gaara said.
"Uncle Gaara, aunt Ayame, what are you doing here?" Shikadai asked, earning scolding from Temari.
"It's fine, Temari. Ayame said. "I don't mind if he goes straight to the point."
"We should go." Kankuro told Gaara. Gaara gave Ayame a kiss on her cheek before he left with Kankuro the Five Kage summit.
"Shikadai, was Boruto planning on doing anything?" Akane asked.
"He wanted to paint the Hokage's faces, how troublesome..." Shikadai replied lazily. "You think Hotaru is with him?"
Akane nodded. "I'll tell him to stop it." Ayame said. "To think he would help him with something like that with the Kage summit going on..."
Ayame left and got to the mountain. All of the stone faces were painted in bright colours and she could easily recognize what Hotaru had done. Before Hotaru could paint any further, Ayame appeared behind him and grabbed his wrist. He turned around and looked at her serious face.
In the meanwhile, Naruto had done the same to Boruto. After a short talk, everything was all right again and Naruto could go to the summit.
"Hotaru, you little troublemaker." Ayame said as soon as they were back on the ground.
"Little troublemaker? Don't you think he's a big one?" Hiroshi asked.
"Maybe." Ayame replied.
"Hotaru! What have you done?!" Akane asked from the distance.
"I painted the Hokage's faces with Bolt!" Hotaru replied with a huge grin on his face. "And I'm not afraid to admit it!"
"You baka!" Akane said, wacking the back of his head. "Couldn't you even think about the summit?!"
Hotaru laughed out loud. "Well, I could, but I didn't!"
Akane sighed, deciding to ignore her little brother, who was only one year younger than her. "Mom, will you train me?" she asked Ayame.
Ayame nodded. "Hotaru, you want to come too?"
"Yeah! Let's go!" Hotaru exclaimed, fist-bumping into the air.
*timeskip no jutsu* (I'm doing that a lot XD)
On the training ground, they ran into Lee and his son. The training session ended up in one of Ayame's and Lee's competitions. Akane and Hotaru were aware of their whole 'eternal rivalry' but they still thougt it was weird for two adults.
"Akane, I'm challenging you too!" Lee's son said with a bright smile, even though he was already covered in sweat.
"I'll pass." Akane said. "Maybe some other time." Hotaru passed too and they ended up watching a match of Lee vs Ayame. Ayame won, but if it was a taijutsu only match, Lee would've won.
"Mom, why are you still keeping up with that rivalry?" Hotaru asked.
"Yeah, isn't it completely idiotic?" Akane added.
"Well, it wouldn't be much of an 'eternal' rivalry if I decided to stop now, right?" Ayame replied.
