Chapter 21: The Birthday Massacre (deactivated)

Mare's POV
Unpleasant noises. Screeching sounds, loud music from the two speakers, blinding moving lights, people's heavy and fast steps, the sound of sweeping the floors, tables, and putting cloth in the hundred of chairs.

My family is too busy for the upcoming event to celebrate my and my sister's special day.

Everything was all ready. From the clothes to the luxurious and healthy buffets—some are not healthy, though.

All the business partners are there, classmates, friends, and foes, and also our vast family tree.

But there's one thing I missed so much that I can't possibly claim and gain at the same time with just a snap of my fingers.

Mama.

Yes, it's been a year since the scenario happened. Ever since all of those black men came to our mansion and brought us down with that sleeping gas, Mama has been gone for almost a year.

And another person disappeared too—Sakura. She is the closest and most trusted friend of mine since we were kids but then; she disappeared on that exact date and time when Mama disappeared.

My whole body was shaking that time and my head stings in pain. I don't know what to do back then.

I took a deep breath as I put the box on the stage.

We're going to celebrate in the house's training room. It's like a gymnasium in schools though.

"Are we done yet?" I looked at my sister who's helping our Tita Friar put the banderitas up to the ceiling for decoration. Her face looks wrecked as if she just works for the whole day.

"May-May, you haven't even helped me with half of our work," Tita interject. "Now, put the banderitas up."

My sister scowled but obliged what our Tita said. Tita Fri is really, really kind but when it comes to working, she has no stop.

"Mare!" I looked to see Tito Void waving at me when I turned to look back. Beside him was Tito Lucas whose hand was plopped down while the other one was on his hips.

I smiled as I took the box again and put it down right in front of my two Uncles.

"Now, we're going to do what we're gonna do, Mare," said Tito Lucas and put his hand down my head. I was not that much taller than Tito Lucas but not really that short either. He messed my hair up with a grin. "Well, shall we?"

Third Person's View
"Our target was the Crystalline Devil. Putting it up, we need to make a sneaky output to execute our plan for stealing it away from the hands of the Furrer Mafia," ani Olivia sa kanyang mga kampon.

Nasa isang kuwarto sila na may mahabang lamesa at pare-parehas silang nakatayo sa harap niyon.

"Anong output natin?" tanong ni Rux sa kanya.

"Simple. We just need to break in with easy access to the event being held at the Furrer Mansion," sagot niya at lumingon sa kanyang left-handed woman. "You know what the event they're going to celebrate, right?"

Her left-handed woman has no hesitation to answer. "It is Mare Furrer's birthday today. I'm sure it'll be a big event just like I knew them. We need to get better access as possible without them noticing us while sneaking in."

"And you suggest... what?" tanong ng isa nilang kasama habang nakataas ang isa niyang kilay.

"I suggest going there alone."

"What?!" sigaw ng kasama nila at inihampas ng malakas ang kanyang kamay sa lamesa. "Are you crazy? We are part of this, Virgo! You can't just suggest that you should go by yourself!"

"I would like to suggest that we should need Virgo to go in to the Furrer Mansion alone," pag-se-second the motion ni Ruxinaire habang nakataas ang kanyang isang kamay.

"I guess this meeting ends with Virgo's suggestion," ani Olivia as mga kasama ng ikinagulat ng nagrereklamong kasamahan nila.

"Boss, she's still new. We could do it with another person."

"And who will it be, Aquarius?" pagbubulalas ni Olivia as kanya. Bumukas and bibig ni Aquarius ngunit sumarado muli ito nang walang maisagot sa katanungan ng kanyang boss. "See? You're pathetic, trying to act like you can do what Virgo can do." Lumingon siya kay Virgo. "You know our drill when it comes to stealing, right?" Virgo nodded. "Good. We'll have a meeting in the next hour. We'll have a break time first. Cut!"

Umalis na silang lahat sa meeting room maliban kay Virgo at Taurus. Napabuntong-hininga na lamang si Ruxinaire at naglakad papunta sa hindi gaanong kabagong ka-grupo.

"Mavis," tawag niya rito at tumingin sa kanya and kasama. Binigyan siya into ng isang ngiti. "Sure ka ba talaga?" pagpapatuloy niya na ikinawala ng ngisi ng kasama.

Nawalan ng emosyon and mukha at mga mata into. Tinitigan lang siya into ng ilang segundo hanggang sa makarinig siya ng isang malalim na buntong-hininga mula rito.

"Sa tingin mo ay magagawa pa ako?" pabalang na sagot ni Mavis at umiwas ng tingin sa kanya. "Heto na lang and magagawa ko para mabigyan ko ng kabayaran ang sinabi kong pangako ko sa inyo."

"Is that only your reason why you agree to be one of us? Iyon lang ba talaga, Mavis?" nagniningning ang mga matang tanong ni Ruxinaire sa kanya.

"No, I want to see my family too at saka..." Unting-unting lumingon sa kanya si Mavis at unting-unting tumaas ang gilid ng kanyang labi. "... I want to see what my family's up to. I mean, it's Mare's birthday. Sa tingin ko, malaking selebrasyon ang magaganap. He'll turn sixteen. Well, I mean, silang dalawa ni Mayra ang may birthday. Madadagdagan na ang kanilang dead. Might as well I enjoy the party first before executing the plan, right?"

"Mavis... Ano bang plano mo?"

"Bakit? Nag-aalala ka ba, Rux?" Binigyan siya nito ng isang ngiti na halos abot tainga ang gilid ng kanyang labi at umaapoy ang nagniningning niyang mga mata. "Don't worry. Wala akong gagawing masama sa kanila. Your team have me. At saka, why should I hurt my own family? Tanging gagawin ko lamang ay magnakaw, hindi ang mang holdap o mangpatay."

"Mavis, if you don't want to be like Olivia, don't do this."

Mavis gave him a knowing look. "Rux, hindi na ako si Mavis. Ako na si Virgo. Mavis was no longer active. Deactivated. Tanging si Virgo ng Castell Organization ang narito," sagot sa kanya ni Mavis. Ito lang naman ang lagi niyang sagot sa kanya kapag sobra siyang nag-aalala rito. "Business is business. Kailangang gawin iyon ayon sa kagustuhan ng boss natin."

Nagsimula ng maglakad si Mavis palayo sa kanya. Habang nakatitig siya sa likuran ni Mavis ay napapaisip na lamang si Ruxiniare sa kung ano ang iniisip nito sa nakalipas na isang taon.

Ilang beses na umuulit sa isip niya ang katagang sinasabi ni Mavis nang paulit-ulit.

I'm Virgo, not Mavis. Mavis was no longer active. Deactivated for the moment.
