Mavis' POV
"Ate, I think this is not a good idea," Ire said as she braided my hair. I wore a red dress and red flat shoes.

"Why not? It's just a friendly date."

"A friendly date? You think this is only a friendly date, Ate?!" she exclaimed. "I think you're just trying to convince yourself that this is only a friendly date. You see, Ate, if a man wants you to be on a date, he planned something for you and now you're saying that it's only a friendly date?"

I frowned. "So, what if it'll not be a friendly date? May masama ba sa gagawin ko, Ire?"

She sighed. "You know, Ate, I respect your decisions and all but not this! Mare and Mayra are really going crazy if they will know about this, especially that old-headed Mare."

I was shocked by her statement. "Don't you believe in me, sister?"

"I do, pero Ate, binabalaan lang kita. You must be cautious and be ready for what's going to happen. Remember, only you can control the flow of the date. Where it'll all starts to where it'll end. Tragic or romance."

"Alam mo, napaka-OA mo, Ire. Para kang narrator na sinisira ang plot ng istorya eh. Tapusin mo na nga lang ang pagbe-braid ng buhok ko."

"Yes, Madam," sabi niya na may halong pagkasarkasmo. "But seriously, once you open the page, you can't go back. Write the next thing and do the right thing for you, Ate. Choose what's right. Don't force yourself in taking a path na akala mo lang ay makakabuti sa'yo. Choose wisely, Ate."

I rolled my eyes. Minsan talaga, parang siya pa ang mas nagiging Ate kaysa akin.

"Where will Mama go?" I froze in my seat and slowly turned around. I saw Mare looking at Ire. "I heard your conversation." Tumingin sa akin si Mare. "Dating somebody, Mama?"

"Friendly date, anak," sabi ko at lumapit sa kanya. "Lalabas lang kaming dalawa ni Tito Rux mo kaya huwag ka ng maging overportective kay Mama, hmm?"

"I know something is up, Mama. I can feel it," sabi niya, tila 'di alintana sa kanya ang sinabi ko. "Don't do it, Mama. I could feel that if you continue this right now, something will happen. And it's very bad."

"Anak, walang mangyayari. Kakain lang kami ni Tito Rux m--"

"Stay safe, Mama," malamig niyang sambit bago lumabas ng kuwarto.

Napabuntong-hininga ako at tumayo na sa pagkaluhod ko. I looked at Ire. "I'm worried about you, Ate. Alam mo naman na ang mga sinasabi ni Mare ay totoo, 'di ba?"

Tumango ako at saka napabuntong-hininga. "Hindi ko alam kung ano ang paparating pero katulad nga ng sabi mo ay maghanda ako."

Ire nodded. "Just stay safe as Mare said."

"I will. I promise."

Suddenly, Mare appeared again at the door making me frown. "Tito is here," anunsyo niya bago muling umalis.

Napabuntong-hininga muli ako at lumabas na ng aking kuwarto. Bumaba na rin ako sa hagdanan dala-dala ang aking pouch bag. Nakita ko si Ruxinaire na nakasuot ng clean white pants at ng polo. Nakatayo siya sa main door. Ngumiti siya nang magtama ang paningin namin.

"You look beautiful today."

I smiled. "Salamat," sabi ko at lumabas na kami at sumakay na ng kanyang sasakyan. Inalalayan niya ako sa pagkaakyat bago isinarado ang pinto at siya nama'y umikot para pumunta sa driver's seat.
