Chapter 22

"Everything's packed. Shall we leave? We're getting late, Freen!" Laura called out, urgency in her voice.

Freen promised Rhea that she would come back within a week before leaving home.

"Laura, did he inform you? Why are we going there?" Freen asked.

"I'm not sure, Freen. I got an order from your dad, and as your manager, I need to obey," Laura replied.

Once they reached the office, Laura asked her PA, "When can we meet him?"

"Ma'am, the boss told you to wait in his office," the PA replied.

Freen and Laura waited for Chankimha in his office.

"Freen, I think he called us to talk about your marriage!" Laura said, looking at Freen, who was busy playing Candy Crush on her mobile.

Laura took the phone from Freen. "Please, be serious!" she pleaded.

"Why should I? Maybe he wants to talk about Becky or he needs to threaten me again, that's why!" Freen snatched the phone back and continued to play.

A boot sound approached near Freen. Laura looked up to see Chankimha entering.

"Hello, Sir!" Laura greeted him.

Mr. Chankimha cleared his throat to get Freen's attention.

Freen glanced at him briefly and then went back to her game.

"Freen, I need to discuss something with you," Mr. Chankimha said seriously.

"Say! I'm listening to you," Freen replied, still not looking at him.

"So it's Rebecca ruining the Chankimha reputation again," Mr. Chankimha said, his tone accusatory.

Freen stopped the game and looked at Mr. Chankimha.

"So you're cheating us by moving on from her?" he raised his voice.

Freen threw her phone down and stood up from the chair.

"Freen, I need you to stop the unnecessary things with her! Right now! Don't think you can hide everything from me. Don't ever forget what I did to Rebecca and Jennie," Chankimha threatened.

"You!" Freen held Chankimha's collar and pushed him away, hitting the chair in her anger. Laura tried to calm her down.

"Freen, please calm down! FOR GOD'S SAKE, DAMN IT!" Laura shouted.

"Mr. Chankimha, mark my words: this time, you can't even touch Becky's toe! I'll make you realize what you did wrong. I'll defeat your ego and pay you back for what you did to my Jennie. Don't ever think about coming near Becky. This is not a warning; it's a general reminder."

Freen slammed the door and walked quickly toward the car, only to be stopped by Ms. Chankimha.

"Freen, please listen to me!" Ms. Chankimha said, holding Freen's hand.

"Please leave my hand. I don't want to hurt you again. Stay away from me and ask your husband to stay away from Becky. Otherwise, if something happens to your husband in the future, it's not my responsibility," Freen replied, her voice filled with determination.

Laura followed Freen and sat silently in the car, sensing the anger boiling inside her friend. She knew Freen needed some space.

Laura was confused about how Rebecca's name came up in their conversation. How did Freen's dad know about Becky? Freen was challenging her dad over a neighbor.

The drive became silent, and no one started a conversation.
