*As promised :). I started this chapter a little while ago and just now got around to finishing it so there is a tonal and writing shift toward the end of the chapter. I apologize for that but I do hope you enjoy regardless. Next chapter coming soon!*

"Hi honey!"
"Mom?"
"Steve answered the phone at your house. He said you weren't home and to try this number."
"Steve's at my house?"
You pause for a moment. The question was more for yourself then for her. You didn't remember Steve saying anything about dropping by your place today. Your mother stayed silent on the other end, leaving you in a slightly awkward silence.
"Did he tell you whose house you were calling?"
You ask to break the tension and to hopefully ease the anxiety welling up inside your stomach.
"No, just that if you weren't home that I could call here and you'd usually answer."
"Oh. Well, what's up? Is everything okay?"
"You know, Steve is such a sweet boy—"
"Mom! We've been over this, he's a friend, nothing more. Now is everything okay?"
You quickly realized how aggressive your tone was but decide not to bring attention to it. There was no reason to add to your growing anxiety.
"Yes, everything's fine, I just wanted to talk to you."
You again sat in silence, still completely and utterly confused as to why your mother was calling and why the hell Steve was at your house when you clearly weren't home.
Footsteps padded through the hall for a moment. You looked over to see a confused Eddie walking into the kitchen. After the second awkward silence, you sighed at your mother's next question.
"What are you doing for work out there?"
"Well you know...the band—"
"Honey, I mean a real job. Where are you working?"
"I'm not working mom."
"I don't pay your bills for you just for you to run around half-naked and playing Devil music instead of getting a real job. How are you supposed to get food? How are you supposed to take care of yourself?"
"People pay us sometimes...and I have Steve and Robin to help me—"
You stop yourself as you were clearly getting increasingly more upset as the conversation went on. Eddie was quick to realize this despite your best efforts to keep a brave face.
He tilted his head to the side for a moment and you avoided eye contact with him. Eddie took this as an invitation to attempt to comfort you. He slowly came up to you and slid behind you, pulling your back flush to his chest before kissing your unoccupied shoulder. You cracked a small smile despite the upsetting conversation taking place.
"You mean they take care of you while you sit around? They spend their hard earned money on you when you could just go out and get a real job? Y/n, I raised you better than that."
Not wanting a full-fledged fight to ensue, you decided to accept defeat and redirect the conversation. Despite your anger and a tinge of sadness prickling at your eyes, you managed to keep yourself composed.
"Can we not get into this right now?"
Your voice cracked, signaling that your composure was also cracking. Hearing this, Eddie kissed your shoulder again, this time not stopping at just one. Instead, he trailed light, comforting kisses up your shoulder and to your neck, slowly swaying the two of you as he did so. He was clearly trying to distract you and it was working.
