The small child looks up at me
With A smile filled with tiny gaped teeth
Her tiny hands grasp my bigger ones as she looks into my eyes
"I'm scared." I begin to cry
I look forward
A future now laid out in front of me
So many possibilities... so many mysteries
Two big doey eyes take in my own
Showing me something that I've always had and known
The tiny hands push my back
Urging me to step forward
To keep my future intact
"This is it, isn't it?"
The small child nods, a proud look on her small face
The weight on my shoulder now more than a ton
Urging me to go back and run
Go on, move forward before it's too late
My heart begins to break
At the thought of leaving the child behind
As I move further down the line
"You're not leaving me. I'll always be right here."
She says as she wipes my tears
The small hand touches my heart
Showing me that we will never be apart
The child is me
The inner child who begs to be set free
So I step forward into the new light
Deep down knowing everything will be alright
The child will always be apart of who I am today
Through my happiness and utter dismay
As I push forward every day
The child will always stay
Never once being astray
