Seeing you

Today was suppose to be a normal day
A day like yesterday
Like the day before
But today was a day I dreaded the most
Seeing you... so close
I've seen you before,
In our inside jokes
The songs we both loved
Our old texts
Your social media
The memories that play in my head at night
But today I saw you
Right in front of me
Our breaths mingled as our eyes fought a silent war
Say something I wanted to scream
But as I take you in I see a stranger
A stranger who looks like someone I used to love
Someone who built me up and watched me fall
But this man in front of me was not him
And I think that's why I dreaded today the most
Because today I realized that you aren't him anymore
And I'm not her
That this is the final part of letting you go
Realizing that you are already gone
The heart wrenching reality is that
We are strangers
Strangers with memories
And it will be the the same tomorrow and the next day
And The day after next
It will be just like today
