The cardboard box sits across from me
The emptiness compared to my cluttered floor makes me uneasy
The box needs to be filled.
My fingers graze the items around me
As my lip trembles... my heart feeling empty as the box
I pick up one thing after another
Putting them in the box
The box fills with our love
While my heart is forced to say goodbye
Each memory dances around me as I stare at each item
Examining it closely... holding it to my heart
Then putting it away
Goodbye... I whisper to each memory
Goodbye ... I whisper kissing each item softly
In the corner of my eye I saw us
Cuddled in my bed
Talking about everything and anything
I place the next item in the box... your pillow
Please stop. We can't let him go.
I lift my eyes to meet my own
The honey dipped eyes plead with me as she grasps me and points to the man on the bed
But with a shake of my head
I give her a sad smile
We can't let go of something that is already gone
We can only say goodbye
I whisper
Turning back I look at the bed and notice he wasn't there anymore
Or maybe he wasn't even there at all
I place the last items in the box
And close it
I close our chapter
To begin a new one
