"Sweetheart, how's your first few days?" Elena asks me.

"It's weird. It's not like my old home."

If I got a dollar every time someone asked me how I was doing settling into my new home, I'd be rich. Wait- richer.

Christian's grandmother smiles. "Oh darling, that's normal. It took me about a month to get used to things."

I frown. "You had an arranged marriage too?"

"Oh no, darling. Do I look like someone who would allow that? I mean to be fair, I fell in love with someone who was already of high importance so it was approved. But even if he wasn't, I wouldn't have let it happen."

Elena sits back in her chair. "You know, You can always get to know each other. You and Christian. I think once you know each other, you'd work really well."

I smile. "Sure. But I don't think we'd ever like each other like that. Maybe friends. But nothing more. I'll try but if we don't make progress soon, I'm not going to continue trying."

"Oh, I suppose that's fair. Have you spoken to your mother recently?"

"No. I'll call her today." I tell her.

"Mm. Okay. Say hello to her for me." Elena slowly gets off her chair and makes her way towards the door.

"Will do."

"Cariño, ¿cómo has estado? hablado desde la boda." My mother speaks on the phone.
{Darling, How have you been? You haven't spoken to me since the wedding.}

"Sorry, Mom. This is still new to me. I have a lot of work. I'll make sure to call you more often. I promise."

She hums. "Alright then I might-"

She and I are cut off by a knock on my door. Leah walks into my room, with a sorry smile. "My apologies ma'am. Sir told me to let you know that you and him have been invited to a dinner party with his aunt. He wants you to get ready for seven."

"Mom, I'll call you back." I place my phone on my bed. "Okay. I'll get ready. Also, call me Tate. Ma'am makes me sound old."

"Of course Ma- Tate. Sorry, I'll get used to it. If you'd like any help with getting ready let me know. It's quite fancy."

"Okay. Let Christian know I'll be ready by seven."

6:01 p.m.

He only told me now!?. I have about an hour to go to dinner with people I don't even know.

I quickly make my way to the bathroom to take a shower and get myself ready for the night.
