Narrator POV:
After eating, the four went outside to the Pool, enjoying what was left of the good Weather this summer had given them. Catra was not a fan of this plan but just watched in silence as the others became a bunch of pre School children in front of her, playing excitedly in the pool.
"Are they really my age?" she thought but just watched them in silence
"Come on in, Catra the water's fine" Bow says
"Pass" the cat hybrid answered, sitting on one of the sunbathing Chairs beside the pool, dressed in a black one piece Bathing Suit Adora had handed her, somehow knowing it would fit her perfectly. While Water was not something she could get accustomed to since she almost drowned as a Child, enjoying the rest of the Sun was not something she hated
Adora sat down beside her, wearing a black and red Bikini that Catra could hardly look away from "You hate water that much?"
"Yeah? So? What's it to you?"
"Chill, dude i'm just making smalltalk here...damn you're on edge"
"Can you blame me? My plan was to cram not to play Lifeguard to the moron parade"
"Why do you hate Water?" Adora asks, much to Catras surprise
"I...don't wanna say so i'm going with "because wet Fur sucks", which is not a lie"
"Fair enough" the blonde answers and leans back to stretch "We can cram later again for a bit but you need to give your Head some rest or it won't absorb knowledge as well as it should"
As much as she wanted to say something to that, Catra knew that the blonde was right "Fine....not like I have a choice...you know, you are an odd one, right?"
"Huh...i am?"
"I am currently blackmailing you, threatening to expose your sexuality to the School and ruining your social Life ....and you wanna be my friend, defend me against your actual Friends and ...." she stretches her Arm out to show Bow and Glimmer playing in the Pool "...well this"
"Is it odd to think that I wanna help you because I doubt you'd actually would out me?"
"So you think you can trust me?" Catra asks, turning around to look at Adora who just shook her head
"Trust is earned, Catra...so no, I don't but... i wanna"
"Why?"
Instead of an actual answer to that, Adora just shrugs and stands up "You will do what you want and I can't stop you. All i can do is being as nice as i can"
"So in the end you are nothing but a Fake. Even that smile is...wait.." Catra thought quietly to herself as she watched Adora put on a Smile that was solely meant for her Friends. While she knew what the blonde had meant with this little speech, her comment and their talk before about expectations lead Catra to believe that she had misjudged a crucial part of Adora...All that she had seen, or rather had been shown, was Fake. Adoras real personality was still hidden deep inside that closeted mess in front of her and she never once seen the real Person behind the Mask "Not like i care but...that can't be healthy"
----
When the others had left, the two went ahead with their study session, spending another 3 hours trying to cram as much missed knowledge as possible into the cat Hybrid's mind. After they both had enough of Math for a lifetime, they went downstairs to see what Milena was cooking
"Evening, Adora"
"Hey Milena, do you mind making another portion?"
"Hmm sure, got a Friend over?"
