Narrator POV:
Sofia counted the Money from the Bag for the 7th time now, still unsure what she should make of such a windfall. While they had some trouble making payments, she always made sure that her daughter was taken care of first and foremost and that she had everything she needed...but the thought of College tuition was an uncomfortable one that she tended to ignore on most days
"49000...50 thousand...and you're telling me there is 5 times as much on your bank account ...right now?"
"Yup" Catra said, absentmindedly as she stretched herself across the Kitchen table. Her Stomach had calmed down but the uncomfortable feeling and fear to eat anything, lest it would be vomited up again, still remained
"I would like to take 20 k for Milena but the rest is yours to do with as you wish" Adora said, hoping to, at least, give the only person she liked from her old home a chance to not suffer any problems because of her rash decision
"We...we can't take this"
"Huh?" Catra looked at her mom in disbelief "Why?"
"It feels... wrong?" Sofia was a hardworking Woman who had struggled for everything she had. She knew that needing help was okay but hated feeling as if she needed handouts in order to survive
"I get that" Adora said "but please, this is the only thing I can do for your help and..."
"We are taking this Money" Catra said, her voice firm and commanding "I am sick and tired of seeing you kill yourself for us and all I can do is sit and watch, pretending that i don't know when you lie to me and say that you're not hungry when I know you had nothing since breakfast or as if I can't hear you argue with someone on the Phone who we owe money to"
"Catarina, I am not.."
"I said WE ARE TAKING THIS....end of discussion and if you don't want it, fine I WILL use it to pay off our debt and but the rest away for me to get somewhere in life" frustrated, the hybrid stormed into her room, slamming the door as loud as possible
Sofia sighed, looking at the Dollar Bills in front of her "Maybe she's right....I wish I could feel okay with this"
"I won't pretend that I don't understand why this might feel...iffy but trust me, my Father will not miss the Money and you deserve it a lot more..." Adora said, looking towards the room Catra just hid herself in "...both of you"
"Thanks....I will take some time to think about it"
"Hmm that's your prerogative but at least pay some bills that need to be paid before they accumulate more interest and write down how much it was. If you later decide that you rather not take it, feel free to reimburse me..."
"Hmm...maybe I'll bill it as your rent?" Sofia said, finally showing a small smile
Adora giggled "If that eases your conscience, I would agree to 10 k rent a month?"
"Ohh...so you're gonna stay for that long?" Sofia smirked, making Adora suddenly realize where Catra got it from
"...I ...don't know yet..kind of depends how things....develop"
As Adora was about to walk towards Catras room, Sofia smiled "She likes when you listen without trying to force her to talk"
"Noted..thanks"
When the door closed, Sofia let out a big breath and started to hide the Money "Good luck, Adora..."
Catra sat on her Desk, pretending to read her Biology textbook when Adora walked in and lay down on the Bed. Following Sofias advice, the blonde took a nearby comic book and pretended to read as well. 20 minutes of this was enough for Catra to calm down and sigh "I get why shes like this...but fuck me, a bit of good fortune shouldn't be ignored when you are in deep shit...am i wrong?"
