Surrender
Princess Adrianna
My body shakes with my sobs as I look at my unconscious mate. My hands shake as I lay them upon his cheeks. My tears stream down my face.
"Why isn't anything happening? Why isn't he waking up," I ask my Mom.
She looks down concerned at the scene unfolding. Time is still frozen around us and I don't know when it'll resume. Hopefully not anytime soon. I can't be sitting here like this while the battle unfolds. We are both vulnerable.
"This should've worked," she tells and turns to my Dad.
"He hasn't crossed into the after life yet. Give it time," Dad offers.
"Octavius, please don't leave me," I whisper softly.
My finger runs across my mark on his neck.
I don't want to live without him. We finally have found each other and accepted our circumstances. We have come to love each other and stay by each other's side through our hardships. I couldn't lose another mate. I don't know what I'd do. I don't know how I'd live through that again. We have accepted each others and our flaws. He waited for me only for him to be taken from me too early.
"Please, don't leave me."
I was practically begging. My breath stops when I see his chest rise and fall.
"Octavius," I ask breathless.
"Adrianna," he mumbles.
I quickly claim his lips in a kiss and pull away to allow him to sit up.
"Where are we?" He looked at our surroundings.
"On the battlefield."
Octavius looks around at the frozen world around us and then back at me. "Did you?"
I shrug. "I might have accidentally."
He smirks, his canine peeking out. "Fuck, I love you."
A throat clears behind him and he turns around look at my parents.
"Thank you, Mom and Dad."
"How?"
"Your neck."
He reaches up with shaky hands and brushes the fresh mark. Although he was smiling brightly his eyes told a different story of possessiveness.
"Why did you have to do it on the battlefield? I want to take you to bed right now," he practically whined.
Can he wait to say that when my parents aren't around? Yes, they know it's normal, but doesn't make it any less horrifying. He comes back from death and makes a comment like that. I swear he has no filter.
"It was the only way."
He smiles again and pulls me into him. It's a tight and comforting hug. "I know, just teasing." He places a kiss on the crown of my head.
"If we are okay, are we allowed to resume time," Mom asks.
I nod. "Yes and thank you again."
Mom smiles softly and they reenter their portal they came through. And like that the world around us resumes. The fires burn, the wind carries the cries of pain, and the war continues.
Octavius pulls me up with his as we assess the world around us. Levi was immediately at our sides. For a moment shocked but recomposes himself like this is normal. His eyes find the fresh mark and the gears turn in his head for a moment. He snaps out of it clearly figuring it out on his own.
"Alpha, Luna. He is calling for your surrender and to hand over the Luna immediately," he tells breathlessly.
Octavius looks down at me. "Why do they want her?"
"She is being seen as the plague to the darker part of the realm seeing that she is the next Moon Goddess."
This again.
"Take me to him."
I look up at him horrified.
Octavius puts his hands up. "Relax. I have a plan. I'm not surrendering nor handing you over," he soothes. "Let's go."
And so Levi leads us up the hill and to the peak where the male sits waiting for us. He grins widely when he sees as hiking up the summits. He stands from the boulder he was sitting on.
"Alpha, Princess," he says. His voice sending chills down my spine and not in a good way.
"Who the hell do you think you are coming onto our territory," I ask harshly.
He smiles again. "You do live up to your reputation, princess."
"And what's that?"
"That you are straightforward."
"Why have you come here," Octavius growls.
His eyes dart to his. "I have come here for the reason you believe. I am here to claim the Alpha position and imprison your Luna. You have ruined the dark side of the realm for far too long with that woman being your Luna. The Death Pack needs a worthy Alpha and you sure as hell aren't worthy."
"And why am I not worthy? Do you not know your history? Our history. The next Moon Goddess is always Luna of the Death Pack before she ascends," Octavius lectures.
The man stays silent. "Well clearly that needs to change because she has ruined everything and I am awaiting your surrender. I also would like my mate returned to me."
"Well that's too bad because neither of those things are going to end in your favor."
He now stood in front of us and stared at me. I truly wasn't afraid of this man, but I could smell the fear on him. While he tried to stretch himself so he looked taller and more intimidating I wasn't intimidated. In fact I was the opposite and I know just by breathing he was intimidated by me.
Octavius steps between us and looks down at the male before us.
"Be careful not to over step or I'll be the one sentencing you to death," Octavius growls.
"Oh, I won't. I just wanted to get a look at the female you are risking everything for," he adds.
Octavius simply picks him up by the collar of his shirt and holds him until he's gasping for air.
"Surrender," he barks.
"No, never."
He shrugs. "Okay then I'll let you die up there from suffocation."
The man starts grabbing at his neck, but not begging for mercy. Octavius throws the man to the cold earth creating a sizable crater around his body.
"Surrender."
Broken and bleeding from his mouth he mutters, "I surrender."
"Withdraw your warriors. You all will pay for the death of my pack members. There will be no trial because there is no need for one."
Within moments the battlefield goes silent with the sounds of war but is replaced with the sounds of first responders. Nurses, doctors, and anyone who can walk are shuttling warriors off the field by stretcher. We momentarily have someone check on us but they are dismissed because the injured need more attention than us.
"Gather up the enemies warriors and bring them to the cells. They will be executed tomorrow morning at dawn," Octavius orders, his voice reaching every corner of the battlefield.
