" would you like a hamburger mariah ". My soon to be father in law asked there was something about Mr.McCann I could not stand even more then Mason . He gave off the kind of energy that all rich , entitled , privileged, elitist has. A man willing to do anything to get his way at the expense of everyone else. The kind of person that looked down on those less fortunate. I could tell he had been in didn't understand my reluctance to marry into his posh and lucrative family.  He probably thought this was something someone like me should be grateful for , that I should be thanking every god in every heaven that my poor working class ,ass had somehow manage to get into his family. The savior complex was nauseating, I knew he thought he was better then me, then Robin , then my mother although he's probably right about that last one.

He probably found it amusing that I wanted nothing to with him or his son , probably figuring it was he who ought to be refusing" that's ok ", I responded rejecting his offer. I sat the table , Mason and Finn had went off somewhere leaving me to my own devices, I'd spent the first hour meeting everyone. According to Finn this wasn't even everyone , more people were suppose to be arriving

The air was thick with the smoke of barbecuing meat and the crackling of the flames could be heard. The small children played , while adults mingled amongst themselves. It was hot, then again it's August in north carolina, I'd become so accustomed to air conditioning and ventilation.

Summers in the south were often hot. It was the only time  in this town that the clouds and fog went away for 8 - 10 short weeks . I usually spent those weeks sprawled on my bed fanning myself with whatever makeshift item I could find. Dreading the return of the school year. Yet eagerly awaiting a reprieve from the heat , This time it was different I didn't feel a looming dread, I thought of school and if not for the fleeting and slightest feeling of tire at the academic labor that awaited , I doubt I'd of felt anything at all . me my senior year I'd of felt nothing. School felt foreign , unheard of and far removed from me .

It was of no importance, there was no future not for me at-least .

I passed tree after tree carrying on until the music and chatter were completely inaudible , I had to be sure no one was around . I kept my ears ready to hear any near by heart beats.

" where are you taking me , what's so secret that we're coming all the way out here", Finn asked from behind me , I walked a little further before halting. It's better to be safe then sorry

" you hear anything ? Any other heartbeats ? " I asked cautiously there was a calm moment ,

" no I don't hear anything? Is something wrong ",he asked

" something is very wrong now what I'm about to tell you needs to stay between the two of us no one can know, not Thomas , jake , Carson , mariah not your dad no one I need you to swear to secrecy ", I told hoping I stretched the urgency enough

" yeah sure I promise ", he told

" ok ... so a few months ago my uncle Asher died , he was killed but what everyone in the pack dosn't know is that it was suppose to be my dad . They had gotten word of this suspicious green house or whatever,  my dad , Mr . Andrews , and a couple other pack members were suppose to go there and scope the place out , when they got there they were ambushed , my dad got called away to some city council meeting and asked my uncle to step in . They killed everyone, Mr.Andrews luckily had escaped , by the time they went back with reinforcements every one was gone only their bodies remained ". I told

" wait that doesn't make sense how would they have known your dad would be showing up with anybody to stake out the cabin ". Finn asked

" think about it finn", I responded I watched as his eyes widened in shock
