We know what we are, but know not what we may be. ~William Shakespear
I barged into the lit lobby of Fallen Boarding School already twenty minutes late. A big chested lady with ruby lips and rosey cheeks stood next to a group of kids. She held a white clipboard and was barking orders at the group who didn't seem to care.
"Remember, you take your meds then off to bed," the lady yelled at out to them. "Follow the rules and no one gets hurt."
I tried to stay hidden behind the group trying to remember if I filled out the paper work correctly. I wonder if my parents were going to change up my room and turn it into some type of office. They couldn't have been more in a rush to drop me off here this morning. I wasn't allowed to have a car here or actually leave this god awful place so I had put all my close belongings in boxes up in our attic at home.
"Excuse me, could you repeat what you said in the beginning?" I asked the lady.
"Well, well, well, look what we have here?" She said looking at me causing all eyes to turn to me. "This is a perfect example of what we DON'T tolerate. Tardiness!" She screeched causing me to cringe.
I tried to stop the red from coming up to my ears but I could feel the heat escalating the longer they stared.
"Meds, as in medications. If you're one of those who need to take them then you'll do so before bedtime. Also no tardiness in any classes or events. You get three strikes and then in the pillow room you go. Remember this is a boarding school to help those of you who need a little help in the head." She continued keeping her judging eyes on me.
"Got it. Meds," I said feeling my heart race.
I've been off medication for a few weeks now. After last year and the months that followed to convince my therapist I was better off without them, he made a deal with me. Go to a boarding school and I'll never take another antidepressant.
After the lady continued her boring lecture, I turned to study the others. At my other school I wasn't much of a somebody. I was. But then things took a turn for the worse and I still can't explain why it happened to me. I had it all, an awesome group of friends and the perfect boyfriend. I didn't think they'd turn their backs on me, but they did or that I'd leave that place until I had no choice.
There were two boys and a girl standing in the group today. Even though I was a semester late in enrolling, it seems others had the same idea. The girl seemed typical. Blond and model pretty with pink manicured nails.
"Hey, I'm Lucy," she said flashing me a pearly white smile. And then it vanished before I could smile back. She reminded me of the type of girls I would have hung out with before the incident.
To my right was a guy with short curly black hair, brown eyes, and when he smiled his dimples showed. He didn't introduce himself, but chewed on his finger which made me think that just like me he was ashamed to find himself in here.
However, the last guy fit in this place a little too good. He was tall and lean, with a black book bag slung over his right shoulder. He had straight black hair and large deep blue eyes. On his right bicep was a tattoo of a sun that seemed to glow. Unlike the others, when he meet my gaze, he held it. His eyes were warm but his mouth was set in a tense line. He stared at me which made my feet feel like they were cemented to the spot. I sucked in a breath I didn't know I needed.
A loud noise broke the trancelike stare. I felt myself blush and pretended to be very busy paying attention.
"Those of you who know what to do, you may go once you leave your belongings." The lady said pointing to a box uner a sign that said Prohibited Items. "And when I say go, Liam," she said tapping the dimpled guy on the shoulder making him flinch," I mean to the gym to meet your guides. You," she pointed to me," dump your stuff and stay with me."
