I stood straight looking into the mirror. My dark hair trailed down to the edge of my chin. I looked up passed my white teeth, thick eyelashes, straight into almost black eyes. I used to have long hair but after what happened to Luke, people became furious. It got so bad to where I found myself in the locker rooms at my old school surrounded by masked people. I was pushed down to the ground and scissors slice through my ponytail.
I had to go in and have it professionally fixed. After that I didn't like how I looked anymore. I hated looking in mirrors. I wore a white tank top, blue jeans, and my black converse. I leaned over the sink and washed my hands. I walked out passed the tinted windows and made my to where I was going to meet Connor. I was going to tell him tonight. I wasn't too thrilled to see him because I couldn't take the image out of him hitting Damon last night.
I had to be straight with him and tell him that there was nothing going on between us. I took a deep breath and straightened out my shirt. Coming up to the gates I didn't spot him anywhere. Great, he stood me up. I started to feel stupid when a I looked up and scene him standing there with a black mercedes.
Of course he had something planned. All I wanted to do was talk. He held open the door for me and visions of me being tied to a chair in some abandoned house flashed before my eyes. I glanced behind me at the camera which was about to turn back to me.
"Don't worry. I rigged them. I'll take care of you." he said.
My heart jumped in my chest. I figured this was the best chance I'll ever have to talk to him. I walked over to him and he put rested his hand on the small of my back letting me inside the car.
"Where are we going?" I asked him once we were on the road.
"Just a little place I like to escape to," he answered looking out the window.
I had a bad feeling inside the pit of my stomach. I couldn't shake off all these warning signals. Sighing, I looked out the window and tried to push them aside. Out the window, trees blew in the wind and pavement blurred by. About twenty minutes later we came to a stop in front of a beat down looking restaurant.
The red brick walls were covered with cracks and the windows were sort of dusty. A red blinking 'Open' sign was up on the black door. Connor got out of the car and pulled me inside. We passed the bar where three rock looking guys sat drinking and laughing. One of them nodded his head toward me causing the other two to look my way. I turned back to Connor and tried to forget the unwanted attention.
Connor pulled out a chair for me and then took his own seat. His face showed no sigh from the fight last night. I wonder if Damon's face might be looking different right this second. Connor bit his bottom lip and smiled letting out a breath.
"I'm so glad you didn't stand me up," he said.
"I wouldn't do that. So, is this place your escape?" I asked.
"Yup. Stick with me and you'll learn all the tricks around Fallen. I'll show you the world, Athena," he said reaching over and resting his hand on mine. "By the way, I got you another gift."
"No, wait--" I said but stopped when he pulled out a little box.
"It's not what you think. Well, hopefully some day," he winked at me.
I watched speechless as he opened the box to reveal a silver chain bracelet. He set the box down and grabbed my wrist clasping the bracelet on. It had little tear drop rubies handing all around it.
"There. It looks beautiful on you," he said sitting back.
I ran my fingers along it as it rested against my skin. It was beautiful. It sparkled so much in the lighting. I let out a deep breath and ran my fingers through my hair.
