Farewell

In the dusk over the cemetery, a crow circle. Three days had passed since that night in the library and Liam's passing. Three days since I haven't been able to sleep, eat, or even think. I stood standing in a short sleeve lace black dress in the field next to the cemetery. Everyone gathered around to pay their respects to Liam. The ceremony lasted about an hour or so then everyone made it out side.

Since the accident, the school was on lockdown. The teachers and staff were all on high alert. I had spent the last few days in my room avoiding everyone. I hated the look in their eyes, the way they looked at me with a hint of fear. The ones I did know were their complete selves around me. I avoided the stares as much as I could during classes. Perry and Arya always slipped in at night to leave me a hot steaming cup of tea or a tray of food which I never touched.

I began feeling desperate for anything to take my mind off the uneasy feeling something was going to happen every time I stepped out of my room. Because for some reason, I knew something would be happening soon. It could be from the figures or the police. Or my parents to drag me back to therapists. This morning Rhonda's deep voice rang out from the intercom saying that tonights movie night would be cancelled.

I had never seen the school so active and full of people. Rhonda was in the front of the crowd dressed in a long black dress with buttons running all the way down. She wore her usual clogs but today they were black. Mrs Z was next to her. Her eyes glossy and she wore a long sleeve v-neck and a gray skirt. Mr. Rush was a few feet way from them and he wore a simple black button up shirt with gray slacks.

All the students at Fallen were seat in rows. I could see some students blowing into a hankerchieves while others stared off into the deep woods. I was no where near Damon but I could see him, annoyingly next to Lucy. He was wearing a black hoody and gray jeans that scrunched up around his black boots. He seemed to be hanging his head lower then everyone else. I thought back to the chocolates he brought me. It was easier to think he brought them to me because that's just what you do when someone's in the hospital. Rather than the idea of him having feelings for me after all.

But I still couldn't stop the little excitement that rose up in me at the fact that he brought me chocolates.

"Now, may he rest in peace," said the minister his voice ringing out around the crowd.

And then it was over. I got up from my chair feeling tired already. Liam didn't deserve this and I couldn't help but feel a little guilt. As I followed the line of people to the reception, an arm slung over my shoulder.

Damon?

I looked up at the person. No, just Connor. His blue eyes searching mine and I guess all they seen was disappointment because he just gave me a sad smile. I had to bit my lip to stop the sob that wanted to escape. I felt emotionally drained and like I was on the edge to collapse. I might have bit too hard because I tasted blood. Wincing, I wiped my lip with the back of my hand and a line of blood was there.

"Hey," Connor said, smoothing the back of my hair but I hissed out in pain. I was still sore back there. "Damn it, I'm sorry. Do you want to go somewhere and talk?" he asked retrieving his hand.

We had been walking for a bit when I looked up and took in my surroundings. A few chairs were spread here and there and there was a set of tables with snacks and drinks. I spotted Perry in a black simple dress with purple heels. She was talking with the minister. I looked around and my eyes landed on Damon. He wasn't paying attention to any one but was whispering in Lucy's ear.

Turning back to Connor, he ran the tip of his finger along my collar bone. I felt goosebumps rise all over my skin.

"You know, if you didn't like the necklace, you could have told me. I can get something else if you want," he said leaning closer to me.
