THE MISSION HAD BEN GRUELING, one of the toughest Todoroki had faced in months. He'd been on the front lines for days without rest, the weight of responsibility grinding him down to his limits. The villains they'd tracked were ruthless, testing him in ways he hadn't expected. By the time he returned to the agency, he was running on fumes, his patience stretched thin. A hint of frustration simmered beneath the surface, barely contained as he pushed open the doors to his office.
Y/N had been there as always, waiting for him with his next set of tasks and the reports he needed to review. She stood with her tablet, her eyes tired but alert, ready to assist him like she always did. But Todoroki didn't acknowledge her as he strode past, his jaw tight, his mind a whirl of exhaustion and lingering anger from the mission. He barely noticed her quiet greeting as he slumped into his chair, hands rubbing his temples.
Y/N hesitated but continued speaking, listing the reports she'd prepared for him. "Here's the mission briefing you requested, and I included the recon files for the upcoming missions. I thought it might help you prioritize the high-risk ones..." Her voice trailed off when she realized he wasn't responding, his gaze fixed somewhere past her.
After a long, tense silence, he finally looked up, his eyes flicking over the files she'd handed him. He scanned the papers, but something in one of the documents caught his attention. His brow furrowed as he flipped through the pages, a small error jumping out at him—a missing signature, an incomplete section on a mission debrief, something she'd overlooked in her rush to get everything done.
Normally, it would have been a minor oversight, something easily corrected, but today it hit him wrong. His frustration from the mission and the countless expectations placed on him swelled within him, merging with his growing irritation. He clenched his jaw and took a breath, feeling his pulse pound in his temples as he turned to Y/N.
"What is this?" His voice was sharper than he intended, but he couldn't hold it back. "This is incomplete, Y/N." He held the report up, his gaze fixed on her, a hint of anger flashing in his eyes. "Did you even look at it before you handed it to me?"
Y/N blinked, momentarily stunned by his tone. She took a small step back, surprise flickering across her face as she processed his words. "I'm sorry, Shoto. I was working on a lot of things at once, and I must have missed that part."
