The room felt unnervingly still, save for the fading echo of the explosion that had sent Bakugo running out the door. Y/N remained on the bed, her chest tight, her mind whirling with a thousand thoughts—most of them about him. About what had just happened. What they had shared.

She ran a hand through her hair, trying to calm the chaos inside her, but the sudden absence of Bakugo left her feeling exposed, like everything that had happened between them was fragile—something that could slip away at any moment. The warm afterglow of their kiss was quickly replaced by the cold rush of uncertainty.

Todoroki. The name echoed in her mind like a cold breeze. The thought of him always did that to her. But this time, it felt different.

The fact that Todoroki was stationed in that part of the city—the very same area Bakugo had just left—wasn't just coincidental. Y/N's stomach twisted at the thought. She had no doubt that whatever was happening out there wasn't just some random incident. It had to be connected to the mission. The mission that had left her bruised and broken, with Todoroki's cold gaze lingering in her mind every time she tried to move forward.

Why hadn't he come to check on her himself? She had been expecting him, even in her own twisted way. He was always there, hovering in the background, ever the professional, ever the hero. But now, Bakugo had been the one who had shown up, storming into her life with all the intensity and fire she'd always known he had. And somehow, despite the chaos and the conflict, despite all the reasons why she should keep her distance, she found herself needing him in ways she hadn't anticipated.

But then there was Todoroki. The man who had once been her mentor, her superior, someone she had trusted without question. And now... now she couldn't figure out if he was still the man she had known or if he had become someone entirely different, someone who made her feel more like a tool than a person.

The thought unsettled her. It made her feel small, used, as if everything she had done for him—everything she had been for him—was somehow meaningless. Like she was expendable.

Her phone buzzed, snapping her out of her thoughts. It was a message from Uraraka.

Uraraka: "Hey! I heard there was an explosion near your place. Are you okay?"

Y/N swallowed hard, her fingers trembling as she typed out a quick response.

Y/N: "Yeah, I'm fine. Bakugo just left. Something big happened, but I'm safe."

She stared at the screen, feeling a pang of guilt for not mentioning Todoroki. She couldn't tell Uraraka about the mission, about what was really going on. It was classified, and she had no intention of getting anyone else involved. But she couldn't shake the feeling that things were spiraling, and she wasn't sure how much longer she could keep pretending everything was fine.

She tossed her phone onto the bed and stood up, pacing the small room. The tension in her body had nowhere to go. Everything felt suffocating. The fire that had burned between her and Bakugo now seemed like a distant memory, drowned out by the rising anxiety in her chest.

She looked toward the window. The city below was alive with flashing red and blue lights, the distant wail of sirens cutting through the air. Somewhere out there, Bakugo was facing whatever danger had pulled him away from her. But in the back of her mind, she couldn't help but wonder about Todoroki. About what he was doing, about where he was, about what kind of life he expected her to lead.

The thought of him sent a cold shiver down her spine, but she pushed it away. She didn't have time for those thoughts right now. Not when she was still reeling from everything that had just happened.

But just as she was about to walk toward the door, the sound of footsteps in the hallway made her freeze. She froze, every muscle in her body tensing. The door creaked open, and for a brief moment, all she could do was stare at the figure standing in the doorway.

Todoroki.

His icy gaze locked onto hers, and for a moment, everything else faded away. He looked exactly the same as he always had—cool, collected, unfazed by the world around him. But Y/N could sense the change. The tension in his posture, the way his eyes flickered between her and the disarray in the room. He had heard the explosion. He had seen Bakugo leave.

"What happened?" Todoroki asked, his voice cold, though there was an underlying edge to it.

Y/N swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her chest. She didn't know what to say. Didn't know how to answer him without revealing everything that had just transpired.

"I—" she started, but the words felt heavy on her tongue. "It was just... an explosion. I'm fine."

Todoroki stepped inside, his eyes scanning the room as if looking for any sign that something was off. His gaze lingered on the bed, on the clothes scattered around, on the tension in the air. He didn't speak for a moment, but Y/N could feel the weight of his stare.

"You don't look fine," he said finally, his voice soft, but with an unmistakable sharpness to it. "What happened?"

Y/N's heart skipped a beat. He was too perceptive for his own good. The last thing she wanted was for him to figure out what had actually happened—what had almost happened between her and Bakugo.

"I'm just... I'm just a little shaken," she said, her voice faltering. "That's all."

Todoroki didn't move. He stood there, watching her, the silence stretching between them until it was suffocating. His expression remained neutral, but she could see the faintest flicker of concern in his eyes.

"If something's going on, you don't have to hide it from me, Y/N," he said, his voice low. "I'm not here to judge you. I'm here to help."

The words should have been comforting, but instead, they only made Y/N feel more trapped. She didn't want his help—not like this. Not when everything between them had changed, when everything felt so complicated.

She opened her mouth to speak, but before she could, Bakugo's voice came through the door.

"What the hell is he doing here?"

The sharpness in Bakugo's tone made Y/N's heart leap. She spun around to see him standing in the hallway, eyes locked on Todoroki with a scowl that could melt steel.

Y/N's pulse quickened as she realized what was happening: she was caught between them, and there was no way to escape it.
