(I Know You By Faye Webster)

Karl's Pov

"Jacobs! Get your ass on the field!" My coach yelled.

Cora broke up with me two days ago. Now it's my championship soccer game, and I feel helpless. I don't hear her cheering on the sidelines. I don't feel her eyes on me.

I ran out onto the field, and got into my position.

"Captain." The ref nodded his head at me and I gave him a nod back.

"You got this Jacobs, don't be affected by her not being here." One of the players patted my back and got into his spot.

"Let's get this done!" Our goalie yelled and I felt the adrenaline rush through my veins.

We are currently tied with 2 minutes left on the clock. I didn't know what to do. Our goalie ended up getting injured so I dropped back to play defense.

"Jacobs, I want you to move up to offense!" My coach yelled and I wiped the sweat from my head.

"What?" I said back and he pointed.

"Diaz, drop back!" Our coach yelled. I quickly ran up switching spots with him and he gave me a smile.

I let out a breath, looking at the other team. I quickly ran up to the guy who had the ball, sliding the ball back behind me with my foot, using my back to keep him away as I passed it to the other side of the field.

"Jacobs!" I heard a yell from behind me. I turned to look at one of my teammates. Laying on the floor, holding his ankle.

"Come on, Ref! You had to have seen that!" I screamed, and the Ref didn't even pay attention to me.

"Far post!" I heard someone yell, I looked over at my teammate before running down the field.

Following my goals right?

The ball was passed to me, and I tapped it quickly to my other teammate before holding my breath as he took the shot.

The sound of the ball hitting the net made me want to fall to my knees. The sound of our section of supporters screaming made me smile for the first time since Cora left. I ran to the middle of the field, hugging my teammates. The people who always were there no matter what.

I heard a familiar scream, and I looked over at the stands.

She was standing there wearing my jersey, tears in her eyes, while cheering for me. She stood on the bleachers and cheered louder.

"I want you to show up for me even when we're falling apart."

I remember her words so vividly.

She showed up.

Even though we fell apart.

Something I didn't do.

She's here regardless of all of the pain that I know both of us are going through. The trophy came out, but I saw her walk down the bleachers and start making her way to the parking lot.

"Jacobs! Come take a picture!" Coach yelled and I shook my head, running after her.

I looked around the parking lot, desperately trying to find her car. Once I found it I didn't make any move to try and chase her, because she was already driving down the street.
