Cora's Pov

My sister got married today. She got married. I watched her get married to Chandler Hallow. The man I always knew that she would marry. The man that stuck by her side through everything, and was always there.

Now I was standing outside of the venue, in my baby blue dress to match the bridesmaids, and groomsmen. I don't have enough courage to walk in there yet. Cara and Chandler walked inside, and once they went in, I got out of the car.

Now I'm standing here alone in my thoughts as I listen to people cheer for my sister and her new husband. I bit my lip before looking down at my outfit, and opening the door to the venue. All eyes snapped to me, and my palms started to sweat.

Music was blaring and people were dancing as I looked around the room at familiar faces of my family members.

"Cora!" My cousins yelled, and I looked over at my sister who was smiling at me.

I smiled and hugged my family, every second that I'm here, the more I'm shaking with my nerves. My anxiety is all over the place, and I don't feel like that powerful lawyer I am, I feel like a small bug compared to these people.

"Let the girl breathe." Chandler said, walking over grabbing my arm and pulling me to Cara.

"Thank you." I spoke looking up at him and he smiled.

"I still can't get over the fact that you're here!" Cara screamed, hugging me again causing me to laugh. We were standing in front of a table full of people I didn't recognize, but Chandler did, and he talked to them.

"You can thank your husband for that."

Chandler had the whole thing planned. I told Cara that I wouldn't be able to make it, and she cried for hours. Chandler and I had a secret plan to surprise her, which made everything even more special.

I would never miss my sister's big day. No matter how busy or far away I was. I would've been here. I'll always show up for someone, even if everything is falling apart.

"What do you do for work? You look so professional." One of Chandler's friends, Jimmy said.

"I'm a lawyer." I smiled and another man at the table screamed.

"Me too! Let's be best friends!"

"Sorry about Alex. He can be a little much. I'm Clay, this is George." I nodded my head with a smile.

"I'm Cora." I shook their hands and they smiled at me.

"Where have I seen you before?" Alex said, closing his eyes to try and think about it.

"Oh my god! Karl! That's where." Alex whispered to Clay and I pretended not to hear them.

"How could you have seen her from Karl? Are you stupid?" George said, and Clay laughed.

"She's in his camera roll." Alex shrugged and I walked over to the corner of the room, by my parents who were talking to Chandler's parents.

I pulled at my dress, trying to look busy, before I felt my anxiety start to pick up even more. I force a smile onto my face, covering the extreme mental breakdown I am having because I don't want to be here.

I heard laughter, which caused the hairs on the back of my neck to stand up. As directly in front of me a brown haired man, and Karl Jacobs round the corner holding drinks.

My heart stopped as I looked at him. He didn't notice, so I stared.

He grew.

His hair is grown out.

Oh my god he looks amazing.

I sucked in a breath before looking him up at down once more. I feel Chandler and Cara look at me, before Karl turns around and looks directly at me.

The tension was so thick, I don't think anything would break it. The whole building got quiet except for the sound of the music. My family stared at me, wondering what was going through my head.

I've never heard silence quite this loud.

The one amazing thing about becoming a lawyer is being able to put on your best smile, and pretend everything is okay, even when it's not. I looked over at my mother with a smile, and laughed.

I didn't know what the hell I was laughing at, but I was making myself look like I did not care that Karl was standing right there. When in reality I'm secretly panicking even more than I was earlier.

This is looking like a contest of who can act like they care less.

"Are you okay, Honey?" My dad put his hand on my shoulder and I smiled up at him.

"Of course. Why wouldn't I be?" I said with a smile before my mother quickly turned around.

"Can you go grab me a drink, sweetheart?" My mom asked with a giant smile on her face. I nodded and started to walk towards the bar. Which meant, walking past the man I used to spend every day with.

"Cora!" Cara screamed, pulling my arm towards her, causing me to be standing right in front of him.

"Yes, Cara?" I smiled at her and she shook her head.

"I was just telling everyone about how you came in from Texas." Cara said with a smile on her face.

"So you live in Texas? I'm Nick, by the way." The brown haired person that Karl was with, spoke.

"No, I live in Florida." I bit the inside of my cheek, looking at him from the corner of my eyes.

"Where! We all live in Florida!" Clay spoke with excitement and I felt my heart speed up.

"Lockhart."

"So you're rich, is what you're telling me?" He narrowed his eyes at me, causing me to break out into laughter.

"Seven figures in the bank." I shrugged, turning my back and starting to walk away.

"Is she single?" I heard one of Chandler's friends ask.

"Y-" Chandler started.

"No." Karl cut him off, before I completely got out of earshot.

My face was bright red, and I felt like my heart was going to explode. I could feel his stare on me. There were goosebumps all over my arms. I grabbed my mothers drink, and started walking away, when I turned around and I was met with him.

I looked over at my sister who was nowhere to be seen.

"Nice to see you, Cora." Karl spoke, his voice softer than ever. I just wanted to run into his arms.

"Nice to see you too, Karl." I said with a smile, looking up at him.

"Florida, huh?" He said, nudging my arm.

"Keeps me far away from this place." I spoke before letting out a deep breath.

"What's so bad about this place?" He asked, raising his eyebrows.

"The amazing memories that haunt me."
