Jennie returned from her work to her mother's hospital room, only to find an odd and suffocating atmosphere inside. She looked at her mother who was deep in her own thoughts and failed to notice her arrival, then to her husband who was looking at her as if he had done something that surely won't please her.

She sighed to herself and plopped next to Lisa, who wound an arm around her waist and kissed her crown. Jennie could sense that something might have happened during her absence, and she didn't think she would like whatever it was. Lisa wouldn't act like this, if he wasn't worried about her reaction.

"Hey, beautiful. How was your day?" She heard Lisa ask, pulling Hye Kyo out of her trance.

"Hmm. Just the usual stuff. It seems we can't avoid the second collaboration with Miss Bae." She answered, leaning her head against his shoulder as she looked at her mother, who was seated on her hospital bed.

"Did something happen while I'm not around?" She asked, sensing that whatever it was, it was probably related to her.

Hye Kyo wasn't able to answer immediately, trying to find the right words to explain herself. She eyed her daughter and could see that she was waiting patiently for her to say something. It was now or never. It wasn't like she could hide the truth from her daughter, now that Jun Ho was aware of it.

"Jenjen… actually…" She swallowed the invisible lump in her throat and prayed in her heart that Jennie would at least listen to her.

"Jennie, please listen to me, okay? I know this is sudden… but I want you to know that I found your real parents." She started, seeing the sudden change in her daughter's expression once she mentioned Jennie's birth parents.

Jennie hardened her jaws and forced herself to remain calm. She didn't want her mother to know that she was already aware of their identities, and that she had no plans on seeking them for recognition.

It was already clear to her that Bae Irene had given up on her and didn't want her in her life, based on what her birth mother did in her previous life. As for Jun Ho, she could see that he was happily married, and it was enough for her to know that her father truly cared about her.

"Mom, why are you telling me this? Is this really needed?"

Jennie wanted to understand her mother. She didn't think that it was appropriate to find her birth parents, especially with Hye Kyo's condition. What was her mother trying to achieve by finding them? Jennie couldn't understand.

Sensing that his wife and mother-in-law needed some privacy, Lisa decided to leave, but the tight hold Jennie had on his hand forbade him from leaving her side.

Jennie shifted her gaze to him, and silently begged him to stay. She didn't trust herself at this moment and didn't want to say anything that could hurt her mother or regret later. Having Lisa by her side gave her a sense of security, allowing her to believe that everything would be alright.

"I have done something unforgivable, Jenjen. I have known for a long time who your parents are, but I didn't say anything, nor did I ever try to return you to them." Hye Kyo confessed. She realized now how selfish she had been for keeping Jennie to herself all this time.

Previously, she didn't want to admit that there was something wrong during her marriage with Dong Wook, but Hye Kyo knew that she was also responsible for its failure. She had noticed the sudden change in her husband and suspected that he was possibly having an affair or two behind her back, but she wasn't willing to face the truth.

Dong Wook wasn't always at home, and when she adopted Jennie, Hye Kyo realized that she and her husband were drifting apart. She admitted that she was a failure as a wife, but having Jennie, Hye Kyo refused to fail as a mother too. Since she had chosen to take Jennie in, she would be the one responsible for her upbringing.
