(The story before the book's events is still being written, either I find something doesn't line up with the book's events or I simply thought of something better. So I highly advise this section to be skipped as you can still follow the story without it. Unless you're interested in anything that led up to the book then go ahead. Either than that please enjoy my crazy writings.)
2002: The U.S. reveals the Mark 1 Interdimensional Transfer Device or "portal gun", as nicknamed by the troops, to the world after 57 years of research, but due to the cost of each unit and instability. The world wouldn't get invested until 2016, giving the US a head start. The portal guns were first used in the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
2016: An Interdimensional rift, or Gate, opens in Tokyo's Yamato District. The US starts paying more attention to Japan's neighbors and Japan itself. US Odin High Command is formed.
2017: The U.S. reveals a new space fleet causing an arms race, military build up, and conflict. US troops were allowed to enter the Interdimensional rift, and officially name the dimension the Innerworld. Russia invades Ukraine after Russian backed separatists declare independence in the Donbas. After 6 months of fighting, the war became a deadlock with WW1 style trench lines.
2018: Nuclear weapon build up for "earth's" defense protests and riots break out across the globe to condemn the build up. The first official diplomatic relations are established with another world besides the Innerworld.
2019: Skirmishes break out in other dimensions between China and the US, but it doesn't boil into full on war. A total embargo and blockade of Russian and Chinese goods is issued by the US, damaging both countries' economies. US troops withdraw from the Innerworld. The Russian Federation withdraws from Ukraine and declares that it will stay neutral in any coming conflicts unless given a reason to fight, the construction of their space fleet bankrupted their weakened economy, along with pro western politicians unnoticeably slipping into seats of power.
2020: A worldwide pandemic, unrest in the US and western Europe. The US builds bases on the moon and mars causing a 2nd space race. Economic depression caused by major economies, mostly the US, ceasing international trade, and focusing on interdimensional trade. Due to the depression many 3rd world countries combined to avoid total collapse. Liberia, and Cape Verde were occupied by the US. A British led coalition in South Africa collapsed, after the British economy collapsed. The Treaty of Honolulu is set up, to allow the island nations in the Pacific to enter the union to protect them against their neighbors.
2021: Dimensional exploration ramps up, causing the UN to establish diplomatic bases in important dimensions, the US responds by setting up bases of their own until they slowly absorbed the majority of these diplomatic outposts. A nuclear missile silo operator named Johnston steel is expelled from the US army under accusations of Sexual Assault. Economic depression ended after the majority of UN members threatened military action against those who ceased trade. This action strengthened the UN and it started to take a more intervening stance on other countries movements interdimensionally, much to the annoyance of the US. The US keeps the trade embargo and blockade on Russia and China. All the new states that formed during this time stay together. The US withdraws from Afghanistan. Italy occupies Slovenia, as tensions in the Balkans heat up again. The Treaty of Honolulu allows Palau, the FSM, The Marshall Islands, and Kiribati to join the US. The Glenn defense line is set up to keep China bottled up.
2022: North Korea coup due to their failing economy and the death of Kim Jong-un, more skirmishes with the US and China. The US authorizes Nuclear weapon deployment to interdimensional bases. The war in Afghanistan comes to an end with a stalemate, after the Chinese supplying the Taliban, forced America to reenter to support the Republic, with the Afghan Republic in the south, and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in the north.
