Act 8, Chapter 3

of course Chrollo asked you where you are going when you put on your shoes at the entrance.

"I want to look around the city a little. I've barely seen any of it so far" you lied, grabbing everything you needed.

"also, I can't stand the constant ringing of the phone.." you admitted rather quietly before opening the front door to leave.

you saw how he opened his mouth to say something but seemingly decided against it as the phone started to ring again, his mouth falling shut.

you bid him a goodbye that he returned, telling you to stay sage as you got into your car.

you put your seatbelt on, started the engine and drove off.

not long into the car ride to the center of the town, still driving through the forest part of the way, you noticed that something was moving between the trees and bushes to your right.

you weren't sure whether to drive slower or faster, so you kept your current tempo for now.

you kept trying to catch a glimpse of whatever was keeping pace with you in the forest, turning your head to the right to see and look for it.

but you couldn't see anything moving once you did, only when you returned your gaze to the road you saw the movement in the corner of your eye.

"shit.." you cursed as you once again began to contemplate if you should speed up or lower your tempo.

if this was a deer or something, speeding up could get ahead of it and prevent it, as well as yourself, from hitting it.

doing so though also meant that you wouldn't be able to stop in time to prevent crashing into it.

slowing down wouldn't promise the opposite though.

you decided to keep your speed for now, only slowing down ever so slightly after a few moments.

you gripped the steering wheel tighter, kept one of your feet hovering over the break just in case.

whatever was running and hiding in between the trunks and bushed was keeping you on edge by not showing itself.

you could not wait to finally leave this part of your trip behind you, to finally get away from home for just an hour or two.

you kept your gaze straight on the road, gripping the steering wheel even tighter.

'one last time' you thought as you took another gaze at the forest next to you.

but this time you actually catched something in your gaze, something that looked like long black hair.

though it disappeared behind a big tree the same second you saw it, not returning again and leaving you to wonder if you started to lose your sanity.

you kept your gaze to the side for longer than you should've, you realize that when a car with it's headlights on passed you just barely on the road between the trees.

it honked furiously as it passed, irritated why you took so much space off the road.

this got you back to reality and you immediately adjusted your car on the road.

you did not see anything in the corner of your eye again.

you drove to the library from what you remembered the route to be by the time you first visited, or rather wanted to visit it, the one tome after work.

so you first drove to your workplace before completely trusting your memory and your head did not disappoint you.

it didn't take you too long to find it, though it took you longer than if you would've just used your phone to find the way.

you parked somewhere close and walked the rest, this time not in pouring rain.

a bit hesitant you grabbed the door handle and pulled, already wondering what else you could do if the library was closed again but the door opened.

warmth came your way through the slightly open door along with the smell of books and a faint hint of coffee.

you opened the door even wider and stepped inside, letting it fall shut quietly behind you.

the library wasn't as big as you had seem some but definitely bigger than you had expected.

there were a few tables in the center, a dozen bookshelves behind them building several aisles.

they were sorted into categories and in the categories they seemed to be sorted alphabetically.

you could even make out a kids corner with books of colorful covers and big letters in easy grammar and easy to understand storylines.

there were even two tiny kid-sized couches and three kid-sized sofas, all in different colors.

you walk past the reception desk at the front, the lady sitting there not even bothering to look up and greet you but you can't complain.

you don't mind just being by yourself for at least a few hours.

you start straying through the different isle's, not really looking for a book or to two pick out yet but to just get a general overview of the choices you have in here and those are a lot.

every genre is present and you recognize a few authors of some categories as you mindlessly skim some spines when you pass them by.

they even have a small section, at the rather back, of works from local authors that were probably donated a long time ago judging by the conditions all of the books are in.

the spines are broken and bend, some pages bearing obvious waves and folds, the pages turned yellow and the once colorful covers faded.

'how destructive love and loving can be' you think as you decide to not pick up any of the books as to not damage them even more than some previous owners seem to have.

you step away from the small shelf, continuing to overview the library as you suddenly feel very drawn to a specific section not too far from the local authors one.

your eyebrows furrow slightly as you wonder how and why a city library as an entire section of the paranormal and you blink a few times just to make sure you read the big, bold letters hanging in front of the shelf correctly.

but your eyes only keep confirming what you're seeing as the letters don't disappear or rearrange in any way, they still read 'PARANORMAL/SUPERNATURAL'.
