Act 9, Part 1

a/n: once again SPOILER FOR BRAM STOKERS DRACULA

''You're back'' Chrollo says happily and with a smile as you walk in through the front door.

you only smile at him, the words 'did you miss me?' dying on your tongue.

even though he's sleeping in your bed quiet regular now and had his arm around you this morning, you don't know what you two are.

you don't even know if you would like you two to be something.

sure, Chrollo is good looking, charismatic, attentive and overall just perfect.

but Chrollo is a ghost. he's dead.

he's probably lonely and he mentioned to you that you remind him after a lost lover.

you think that he's probably just desperate for interaction and now that he seemingly is able to touch and even carry things, you guess that he misses physical touch as well.

for some reason your heart clenches at that thought.

you tell yourself to remember to ask him why he can touch things 'better' now.

"it was so boring without you" Chrollo says, ripping you out of your thoughts.

you tilt your head.

"didn't you continue reading?" you ask and Chrollo pinches his lips together, raising a hand to the back of his head and scratching sheepishly.

"I finished reading it.." He admits.

"Already? I got you the book yesterday" you say surprised and suddenly remember Abir.

how she terrorized your house phone, wouldn't stop calling and making the phone ring.

how did you already almost forget that..?

Chrollo must've seen how your face dropped but simply misplaced why.

"I'm sorry.." he says, eyes darting to the ground.

"Oh no no, it's fine! I'm glad you liked it!" you quickly rush to say, raising your hands in defense.

now you feel guilty for making him feel like you were mad at him for reading so quick.

"it's just.." you try to find an excuse to your reaction.

you know he won't be happy if you tell him that you thought about Abir.

"..I'm just sad because I won't be able to get you a new book until my day off on friday..!" you lie and you see how his face instantly lights up as he raises his gaze.

technically it's not a full lie but just covering up the actuality.

you really won't be able to get him a new book until friday due to your shifts and the periods in which the library is open.

"don't worry about it, as long as you come back to me I'm fine" he say's and you feel like someone put a needle in your heart with how bad it stings for a moment.

you decide to just smile and the subject is dropped.

you direct the attention back to the book.

"how did you like it?" you ask and Chrollo knows immediately what you're referring to.

"it was really good" he say's as you strip off your shoes and jacket.

you smile.

you really managed to find something he likes.

though you remember that you fell asleep when he was explaining the story to you yesterday which must have looked like you didn't actually care.

"I'm sorry for falling asleep yesterday" you apologize and there is honest remorse in the gaze you direct at him.

Chrollo gifts you a calming smile.

"no need to apologize" he say's "I'm just glad I could help you fall asleep.

you smile in gratitude before putting your shoes where they belong and hanging your jacket on the clothing rack.

you walk towards the living room when you ask him how the book ended and he follows close behind you.

you know he does.

not because you can hear him walk, you literally can't, but because you feel his presence looming behind you.

for a moment your body sets itself into fight or flight mode before dropping that possibility after a second which leaves you with a shudder to get rid of all the sudden tension that build up.

"Well" he starts and you sit down on the couch and he follows suit, doing the same.

"The count Dracula manages to get to Mina and as she slowly turns into a Vampire the men manage to make the Count flee back to his castle. Before he can arrive there however, Van Helsing and Mina cleanse the castle by killing the three Vampire woman and sealing the exits with sacred objects. Right before the Count is able to reach his castle, Jonathan, Mina's husband, and one of the men who proposed to Lucy manage to destroy him with knifes" he recalls casually as he shifts around.

you don't understand why he shifts around like that until his thigh touches yours.

you watch it happen, watch him move closer, and despite telling yourself that being close to Chrollo is a stupid idea, you don't do anything against the physical touch you shouldn't be allowing if you really didn't want anything romantic to start.

you swallow before responding.

"so the good side won?" you simply ask, eyes switching from your touching thighs to his face and you're surprised to see he's already looking at you.

he smiles gently when your eyes meet and your heart drops for a moment; you've never seen someone this beautiful in you life.

"I mean.."Chrollo starts and takes your attention to his words instead of his looks.

"..one could take it as they want. Yes, the count perished in the end but it doesn't erase the damage that is done. It doesn't bring back all the people he killed. Even more so, does it not cure the people he has infected and the vampires he made will continue to kill and haunt until they are haunted and killed but before that happens, there is going to be more deaths. I think it shows that erasing a problem causer doesn't remove the problem and the damage that has been dealt." Chrollo diverts his gaze away from you at his last sentence, looking into his lap which makes it feel like his words has something personal to them.

QUESTION: One shots in the hunter x hunter world or alternate universe one shots??

I'm already starting to write a few one shots again for halloween of just Chrollo :3 I'd rather get started a lil early than stressing myself and not being able to publish as many os as I want since this is going to be the last halloween one shot collection
