you decide not to question Chrollo on his words.
to change the subject you say that you're hungry and going to make yourself something to eat.
you stand up and make your way to the kitchen, Chrollo doesn't stay seated though and follows you to the kitchen but he stays in the doorframe and leans against it.
he doesn't say a word, simply watching you prepare your food.
as you sit down to eat, he asks you how work has been.
you swallow the bite you just took before answering.
"a bit boring as usual, but I got to work at the cash register for the first time today." you say with a smile and Chrollo congratulates you.
you take another bite and swallow that one as well, eager to keep the conversation going because you don't like eating in silence.
"it's really nice to be at the cash register" you state.
"not only is it a nice change to just filling up the shelf's, but I appreciate the social contacts."
you take another bite.
"I bet that the change is quiet refreshing." he say's with a smile and his head tilts to the side.
"oh it so is. I'm hoping I can take the register a bit more often. it was more of a coincidence that I got to today because the store was so filled that everything needed to go a little quicker in store so Hisoka took filling the shelves over." another bite fills your mouth.
"what's Hisoka up to anyways? did he make any more annoying remarks?" Chrollo asks and you're a bit confused that he cares about Hisoka.
you shrug.
"It's Hisoka" you say and Chrollo nods as if he knows.
you remember how nice everyone was to you while you were at the cash register and decide to tell Chrollo about it.
"while I was at the register, a mom welcomed me to the town because she asked me if I'm new since she didn't recognize me. I told her I am and she welcomed me so nicely, she even asked her little daughter to welcome me as well but she so shy and it was just so cute!" you tell him excitedly and smile at the memory.
"it's a small town and it's usual that small communities are knit tight together.." he simply responds but there is some sullenness in his voice.
you furrow your eyebrows at the tone but he doesn't elaborate further even though he sees how you react.
'guess he doesn't wanna tell me..' you think and finish your food.
you put what you used in the sink and tell Chrollo you're going to take a shower to which he nods with a smile.
as the hot water runs over your head and down your neck and shoulders, you notice how tired you are.
socializing must've taken a bit of a toll on you, you guess that it's because you barely did ever since moving in a month ago.
has it really been a month..?
wait, what's the date?
you finish taking your shower, dry yourself up and get dressed before checking your phone.
it's october 21st.
Halloween is already next thursday!
you scratch your head in a bit of confusion at this realization.
did time really fly by this quick? wow.
should you even bother buying candy?
you live at the furthest outskirt of the city, by far not away from all the other houses of this town.
you don't expect any kids to come here, no parent would allow them to walk the road to your house right through the forest basically.
you don't expect any visitors at all actually.
you're kind of sad about it.
you would've loved seeing the costumes the kids came up with..
you sigh sadly.
but you're determined to buy some candy anyways.
maybe you will drive into town and give away some candy just like that or just look at the costumes everyone's wearing.
that thought cheers you up.
with your phone still on and in your hand, you walk into your bedroom and sit down on the reading chair at the window.
you know that if you were to sit or lay on your bed, you'd fall asleep.
you call your mom and it rings for a few moments before she picks up.
"(y/n)!" she greets happily.
"mom!" you greet her back the same way.
"how have you been doing?" she asks and you can hear her whisper to, probably your dad, to turn the volume of the TV down.
"much better. I've been sick last week but that's all gone now" you say and you hear your mother make a sound of confusion.
"you've been sick? I didn't know that!" she says and it sounds like an accusation.
"it was just the flu, nothing bad really." you tell her and she hums disapproving.
she sighs before speaking and now she sounds pensive.
"well, that does goes around this time of the year..." she says and you agree.
"how had dad been doing?" you ask.
the last time you called with them he didn't do great either.
"oh much better, he just upset his stomach because he thought eating leftovers from three days ago was a good idea.." she says.
"how much do you cook that you got so many leftovers?" you ask amused.
"I still sometimes cook for three you know, it's hard to get used to cooking for two" she say's defensive but there is something sad in her voice.
"wait, I will put you on speaker" she quickly adds.
"I miss you guys so much.." you say and your mom is quick to tell you that they miss you as well.
"how's work going?" your dad asks and you fill them in on everything you haven't told them yet.
"aww that's so sweet!" your mom exclaims after you told them of the interactions you had at the cash register.
"I know right..Chr-" you stop yourself.
you almost repeated what Chrollo said to you by quoting him.
"Chr?" your mom repeats confused.
you decide to just go for it.
"y-yeah, Chrollo..he said that it's normal for small communities to be knit together tightly" you say unsure.

a/n: so far i got 5 one shot ideas for halloween, one is done and another is almost done. this year they aren't going to be as long each but there will be more i hope that's okay
i've been working on them like a sick woman in hopes to get them all ready until halloween and not having to rush anything
