There was a moment of silence, a long one.

sometimes you were bothered when that happened, but not today.

not in this moment.

instead of staying caught in the moment with Chrollo sitting next to you, your thighs touching by how close you were sitting next to each other, you were lost in your thoughts.

you have wondered about this already, but what if Chrollo was alive right now?

not a 'bringing him back to life' but a 'we grew up at the same time' alive.

how different would your life be?

his would be much different, no questions asked, but if there was something like fate would the two of you have met nevertheless?

in what kind of relationship would you two have been?

friends? strangers? enemies?

lovers?

you liked the thought of being able to grip Chrollos hand, to feel flesh underneath your palm and fingers, to shake and hold his hand without fearing that his skin would turn cold before disappearing into thin air not long after.

you liked the thought of holding him close to you, to share each other's warmth.

you liked the thought of embracing him in a tight hug, to put your arms on his shoulders before they would sling around his neck to keep him close while his arms went around your hips and waist with his hands resting on your lower back.

you liked him.

and you hated fate for having done this to you.

you sighed and lifted your gaze, shifted it on Chrollo's face.

"You mentioned a past lover once...how were they?" you asked.

right now you needed to hear about them, about the fact that Chrollo liked someone else.

you wanted your heart broken by him, by the fact that you were delusional to think he could like you and that the both of you could be.

instead Chrollo lifted his hand and cupped your cheek gently.

with his thumb he was gently brushing the skin of it.

"exactly like you." he said and his face shifted a bit closer.

you didn't notice that at first, being so caught up in his eyes and the look in them.

so loving, so gentle, so longing.

like you actually were the long lost love he must be missing so badly.

your heart started to race, your breath stopped and your eyes widened a little.

you were unable to move when Chrollos face got closer and closer, you could already feel his breath on your face.

you were just about to close your eyes when your phone started to ring.

Chrollo flinched away immediately and got back into his former position with a clearing of his throat.

you were still frozen for a moment, it felt like forever until you got out of that state and got your phone out of the pocket of your pants.

your mother was calling.

before being able to decide yourself whether to pick up or not, Chrollo told you to do so.

so without hesitation you did.

"Hello, mom?" you said into the phone, got up and walked back upstairs for privacy and to kind of escape the situation from before.

now that it was over, you were kind of embarrassed.

was Chrollo really about to kiss you?

heat rose to your cheeks, coloring them in a bright shade of red.

you wanted to forget what happened just now so you tried to concentrate onto the phone call with your mother completely.

"Hi Honey, sorry to be calling this late. I wanted to call earlier but the next door neighbor celebrated their birthday today so you know we had to visit." she said, you could hear your father saying something in the background but couldn't make out what.

''oh no it's alright..the call was just a little sudden and I was getting ready for bed..'' you lied.

you sure as hell weren't gonna tell her about the situation with Chrollo from just a moment ago.

she doesn't even know about him, neither does your dad or any of your (few) friends back home.

Hisoka doesn't know either, not that he really knows anything about you at all.

''sorry about that'' your mom said, pulling your thoughts back to reality '' but how are you feeling?'' she asked.

you had only very briefly told her that you weren't feeling all that great and were probably getting sick a few days ago when you went home earlier from work on monday.

''much better, I think I'll be fine going back to work by the start of next week...what day is today?'' you asked, already pulling your phone away from your ear and to your face to see yourself.

"it's saturday" she said and you felt your heart drop.

it was already saturday? how could you have completely forgotten how many days have passed?

you thought that it might've been wednesday or thursday but saturday?

but you swallowed down the surprised sound that stuck in your throat.

"right.." you said instead, throwing your phone onto your bed after putting it on speaker.

"I will enjoy sunday as my free day then.." you mumbled, left unheard by your mother.

"how was the party?" you asked to get a conversation rolling.

"it was okay but it seems that some snack there wasn't good anymore so now your father is feeling...rather nauseous." she said, a loud and big breath filling her lungs before escaping her lips in a sigh.

"glad I didn't take one of them." she added and you could hear her going through something, probably the bathrooms cupboard to look for something to ease your dad's discomfort.

"I'm so sorry about that." you said, grabbing the notebook you took with you when you took your phones upstairs at your mothers sudden call.

"yeah well, there's not much to do about it now.." she said as you were mindlessly going through the pages of the book, scanning the texts on the pages without really reading them.

your mothers words reminded you of Chrollo, how helpless and afraid you were of him the first week of living here.

how you accepted a strangers help only for everything to resolve itself.

but now you were facing another problem, one you couldn't just sit out and shake away in fear of.

how could cupid be so crule to you?
