Leo's POV
"You're doing awesome dude!" Mikey exclaimed. Esme pushed off the ground and kept her balance as she rolled by him on the skateboard.
"I'm not falling off!" she cried. Raph smiled at her and held his hand out for her to high five.
"Getting better already," he said. She reached her hand out and managed to get a little slap on his hand.
I chuckled softly, turning towards the lair entrance to start heading up top.
"Where are you going Leo?" Donnie asked, popping out of thin air. I jumped, looking in his direction.
"Just on a run."
Donnie eyed me for a second before replying.
"I'll order a pizza if you pick it up on your way back." I let out a sigh, relieved that he hadn't started questioning me further.
"Sure Don, I'll text you when I'm on my way back."
"Sounds good," he gave me a thumbs up and then turned to go back to his laboratory. I ran into the tunnels, making my way up top to start my search.
I looked into the roof window of the fifth Shark warehouse I had visited that night. But just like the rest, June was nowhere to be found. It was possible she really was working for them, but so many things didn't add up.
Why had her family kept her a secret? Why was she confused about the boxes being empty? Why did Grayson give such an open ended answer to Esme's question? And why couldn't I find her anywhere near the criminal activity going on in this gang?
Wait. That was it, I had been checking all the warehouses that the gang itself was operating out of. Not the legal warehouses. If she really didn't know what was going on then it would make more sense for her to be at one of those. Luckily there was one not too far away from there.
I leapt across the rooftops, heading towards the nearest warehouse that actually shipped things across sea. A loud boat horn echoed through the air, a giant cargo ship heading away from the port. 'Kingston Shipping' glowed brightly in the night on the warehouse by the docks. It was surrounded by trucks and I could clearly see movement from inside.
I jumped down on the ground, running to the side of one of the vehicles as voices came towards me. I waited for the people to pass by before peeking my head out to be sure no one else was coming and then sprinted to the side of the building and up the fire escape.
Apparently Kingston had inherited this business at a young age, but it had been on the brink of bankruptcy. That's when he started dealing with gangs to ship not so legal things in and out of the country. Not surprisingly the business took off after that and had grown to the giant empire it was today.
I looked through the window and watched as people filled, sealed, and carried boxes back and forth. Loading and unloading trucks and then sending the trucks off when they were full. That's when I saw her.
She was helping some of the workers carry a particularly big box into the truck and once it was loaded up they turned to her, seemingly thanking her.
A smile lit up her face as she gave a little wave as if to say 'no problem'. Suddenly someone else came up to her and motioned towards the clock. She looked a bit surprised, said something in return and then started to go up some stairs to a closed off room.
This was my chance. I leapt onto the roof and ran over to the other side, hoping there was some type of entrance into the area she had gone into. I jumped down onto the fire escape and found another window that was partially opened. Pulling it open, I slid into the dark room and began to take in my surroundings.
There were a few tables and some vending machines along with another door to the right that had a bathroom sign next to it. It must have been the break room.
I ducked down as I heard the door start to open, someone stepping inside and flicking on the light. The door shut and then there was silence. Was she still here?
"You have ten seconds to tell me why you're here," a voice snarled from above me. My head snapped up as I saw her standing by me, a metal bat in hand and raised above her head. She had bright blue eyes that pierced into my own with an incredible intensity.
Where the hell did she get a bat?
"I come in peace," I said, showing her my hands as I slowly stood up. To say I was impressed was an understatement, I hadn't even heard her sneak up on me.
"Sure, I'll just believe the person who helped kill my brother."
Is that what he told her?
"It's a little more complicated than that."
"Seven seconds," she narrowed her eyes at me.
"Do you know what it is your dad does?" I hurriedly got out, realizing she was serious and that I just needed to get straight to the point.
"He runs a shipping company."
"You don't actually believe that, do you?"
Doubt flooded her eyes as her grip on the bat started to falter.
"What are you trying to say?" she asked, her voice quiet. I looked to the door, hearing footsteps beginning to come up the stairs.
"If you want answers, I can give them to you. Meet me at the abandoned tuna canning plant on Saturday at Midnight. I can tell you what's really going on here. Including what actually happened to your brother."
"What do you mean? What happened to him?" her grip tightened again, her voice rising.
"June, is everything ok in there?" The voice was right outside the door.
"Please, meet me and I'll tell you everything," I reiterated before jumping out the window and climbing back onto the roof.
Looked like Esme was right, Kingston must have been telling her false information.
