June's POV
"I knew it was a bad idea, you can't go up anymore," Leo huffed as we entered the lair.
"I don't think it'll really matter anymore," I frowned, playing with my fingers.
"Why not?" He said, voice sharp.
I looked at the floor, zoning out. His tone reminded me of my dad. Or Grayson. But I knew he was just stressed, and I took a breath, preparing myself. I knew that what I needed to say was about to reverse all the work we had done to ensure I stayed 'dead'.
"Because?" Raph chimed in, impatient as always.
"Johnny saw me," I managed to get out. If it was any louder in the room they probably wouldn't have heard me.
"Johnny was there?" Esme asked, her eyes widening. It all happened so fast, I guess the others hadn't noticed him.
I nodded, my eyes darting across the floor. "He's probably told my dad already. If he hasn't by now he definitely will." I fiddled with my fingers, trying to ignore the feeling of Leo's eyes boring into my skull. Or maybe I was imagining it and he wasn't even looking my way. I wasn't gonna check.
"I'm really sorry." All of that work, and for nothing. I had only been down here for about a month, and the plan had already been ruined. They were risking their safety now.
Shit. What if I had to live somewhere else? I mean, I would, I wouldn't want them to risk themselves for my screw up, but still. What was I gonna do?
"Hey, don't beat yourself up over it. If you hadn't helped me I'd probably look like Swiss cheese right now," Mikey sat down next to me and nudged my shoulder, a lopsided smile on his face.
"There was always the risk of us being found out. It just means we're gonna have to be extra careful now and on the lookout for any schemes Kingston might be planning," Donnie added.
I nodded, quickly glancing up at Donnie and Mikey and giving them a small smile before looking back at the floor.
Here they were, being understanding and sweet, comforting me. I grabbed my wrist. "Yeah."
Now I just needed to know what Leo thought. It would be completely understandable if he was upset with me, but I hoped he wasn't. I might've been able to handle the others, but Leo being upset with me would be hard. I sat there, waiting for the worst.
"Does this mean I can stay...?" I asked, looking around. I still couldn't meet their eyes. Not until everything with Leo was okay.
"What? Yeah, of course," Leo said, but there was something in his voice that said he was still upset.
"Who else would save our asses at the last minute?" Mikey laughed, playfully throwing an arm around my shoulders.
I smiled at him, quickly glancing over at Leo as everyone else let the tension wash over them.
Between the small laughs and sighs of relief Leo managed to quietly leave the group, heading towards the bedrooms.
I waited for a moment for the chatter to die down before standing up. "I've gotta go to the bathroom real quick, I'll be back in a bit," I quickly walked out of the room as Mikey asked about dinner, which I logged in the back of my mind. We were definitely having pizza tonight.
When I finally made it to Leo's door I stopped, debating whether or not I should even be doing this. What if he needed more time? Or what if I waited too long to say something? I was always bad with this sort of stuff.
I rubbed my face, taking a deep breath in before shaking my hands. I could do this. It needed to be done.
I took one last deep breath before knocking on the door.
