I don't know what's gotten into me, honestly.

Even though Mabel Pines had grown into a beautiful, nice woman, I still shouldn't have gone to the diner with her.

She was way to sweet!

I told her my usual lie about where I came from and that I was working as a baker (which was true).

"So, you make pastries and cake? Because you're just that sweet.", the woman flirted.

"I make bread. I love bread. Best invention ever.", fuck. I let that slip.

"Oh, I knew a guy that likes bread that much, but he turned out to be an evil demon.", Mabel giggled.

I felt very much offended.

"What did that guy do?", I asked.

"Well, nothing, but"

"How do you know he was evil then?", I smiled.

"He was a demon. All demons are evil, silly.", she laughed.

What a pretty laugh.

I let that slide.

"You know, I learned how to make bread in Germany. They are really good at that.", I smiled.

Eventually she told me it was her kids first day at school.

"Virginia was very nervous, but Victoria doesn't fear a thing. I'm so proud of them!", the woman said and I could tell she loved her children very dearly.

"Well, Bills a bit of a lost cause, always in trouble. But he's really smart.", I explained.

It had always felt weird talking to and about Bill.

My best friend is also my adopted son. It's fucking weird.

"What about his mother? Does she help you?"Mabel asked carefully.

I sighed.

"His parents died in a tragic accident when Bill was very little. They were my best friends, so I took that toddler in."

"I'm so sorry. That must be so hard for you two."

"It's alright, you learn to live with the loss eventually and Bill doesn't know another live.", I said, but suddenly I felt very much watched.

A tall, slim man had entered the diner and I felt his stare cut right through my disguise.

I felt small.

"Are you alright?", Mabel asked.

"Yeah, I just remembered something. I need to leave. ", I sighed, payed for both of us and left.

The man followed me as I walked into the woods.

"Your highness? Is something wrong?", I asked, knowing full well the eagle had just come down from his throne to talk to me.

"Tad Strange. You've got some nerve, flirting with the Pines girl like that. ", he huffed.

"Sir! I was not flirting. I just didn't want to ruin her day, that's all.", I lied.

Of course he knew.

"You like her?", the deity asked.

I felt his powers cloud my brain. Lying was impossible now.

"I think she's really nice and I like the way she loves her children so dearly. I always knew she would grow into an amazing person.", My mouth said.

Fuck.

The eagle nodded.

"We will discuss this later. Go back to the school. You gotta pick kid Cipher up.", he then smirked.

"What? His classes shouldn't end ye- oh no.", I sighed.

The eagle nodded, turned into an actual eagle and flew away.

In that moment a got a message from the school.

Bill, you fucking idiot.
