Chapter 53

(Steph's POV)

"Mom, can you pass me that measuring cup" I asked.

"Sure, ija. Alin dito?" tanong ni Mama.

It's December 24th at almost Christmas Eve. My mom went back here in the Philippines like three days ago, magpapasko na kasi and we wouldn't want to celebrate Christmas without her.

Time flew by so fast. Parang kamakailan lang ay November palang, ngayon December na. And later on, New Year na and soon the marriage will take place. Thinking of it still makes me uncomfortable pero ano pa nga bang magagawa ko?

"The biggest one, Ma" I said and so she handed me the biggest measuring cup on the table.

I decided to help out in making the food we're going to eat later on Christmas Eve. It's kind of my tradition ever since nagkaroon ako ng interes sa mga trabahong pang kusina. And besides, kakaunti lang ang mga katulong dito ngayon sa mansyon dahil na nga rin sa hindi naman namin pwedeng ipagkait sa kanila ang mag celebrate ng pasko kasama ang mga pamilya nila.

Unlike the past Christmas this family had, masasabi kong this year is special. Walang out of town trip and grand Christmas parties. This year, dito lang kami sa bahay mag c-celebrate but with a bit of a twist: the Vegas will be coming.

I honestly didn't expect to celebrate Christmas kasama ang pamilya ni Xavier but I guess I should expect more of the unexpected.

Dad had this grand idea about inviting the Vega family at our house to celebrate para naman daw maiba and they agreed to it naman so, why not? I don't expect Xavier to come though.

Naikwento niya na sa akin dati na hindi siya nag c-celebrate ng pasko kasama ang mga magulang niya. He never told me why but I assume that it's because of his bad relationship with his father and step mother. Although, I personally think that Tita Jane is not that bad. She's sweet and motherly kaya hindi ko alam kung bakit hindi siya mapakisamahan ni Xavier.

At isa pa, just knowing how popular Xavier is, malamang nasa kung anong Christmas Party na siya ngayon, getting his self drunk.

"So, my dear daughter" mom teased. Everytime Mom calls me that, alam ko ng may gusto siyang malaman kaya naman ay napairap nalang ako at napangisi.

"What do you think of the Vegas' son? Xavier? Is he good?" she asked while I try to gather all the ingredients that I need.

"Mom..." I awkwardly answered. I seriously am not planning to talk about this yet. And I have no interest of talking about Xavier! Ano naman kasing sasabihin ko? Na ex ko ang fiance ko at nag hiwalay kami kasi pinagpustahan niya ako?

"Come on! There must be something you like about him! Spill it all out my dear! I'm all ears" she continued. Ugh! Seriously, Mom?

"There's nothing to say about him naman kasi Ma. " I said and turned myself to the refrigerator to grab more of the ingredients I need.

As much as possible, ayokong pagusapan si Xavier. Di naman dahil sa bitter ako o kung ano. I just feel awkward about it.

"Ganon? But I heard you guys have history? And I never met him pa, ija. I don't know what to expect of him mamaya so better spill me some details! Even just the basics!" she teased even more and I couldn't help but laugh. Ibang iba talaga si Mama minsan

"Gosh, Mom! It's really nothing important" I argued even more

Of course! Ba't pa ko nagisip na di alam ni Mommy yung tungkol sa relasyon namin dati ni Xavier? Even my Dad knows. But I wonder if they know what caused it to end?
