Douma watched as Koyuki walked happily on the sidewalk. Smiling and humming like a little girl, he hid himself behind a tree, observing her as if she were his prey.

He pointed the gun right at the back of her head, and as she took one more step, the bullet went perfectly into her head. Causing her body to freeze,

and quickly fall on top of the hard, and dirty ground.

The flesh on her cheek was scraped by the pavement, and she started bleeding all over the place.

Her clothes were getting stained red, and the sidewalk was getting drenched in it. Douma quickly fled the scene and went back into his house.

Smiling in triumph.

...

"Douma."

Douma met Hakuji's gaze, feigning innocence.

"Yes, is there something wrong, Hakuji? You look a little sad." Douma said, pretending as if he were clueless of the situation.

Hakuji hesitated for a moment before breaking the news, his voice quivering with sadness. "It's Koyuki,"

Douma nodded, waiting for Hakuji to continue.

"She was found... dead. She had been shot in the back of her head, and her body was found on the sidewalk..." Hakuji's words trailed off. He couldn't believe that his bestfriend, and soon to be girlfriend was really dead.

Douma widened his eyes, acting surprised.

As Douma observed Hakuji further, he couldn't help but notice how red his dear friend's eyes looked, as if he had cried for hours before coming to school.

"And her killer wasn't found?" Douma asked, his voice laced with feigned concern.

Hakuji shook his head, his sadness palpable as he let out a sniffle.

"I'm sorry." Douma offered a fake apology, though he felt anything but guilty.

Hakuji sat down quietly, the entire day he looked depressed, and barely talked to Douma. Or anyone for that matter. At least it was Friday.

...

Hakuji laid on his bed, his gaze fixed on the sidewalk outside, consumed by guilt. He wished that he was there to protect her from the person who shot her.

In the middle of his reflection, Hakuji's phone rang, snapping him back to reality. It was Douma calling.

"Yes?" Hakuji answered, his voice shaky with a bit of sadness, since he was just reminding himself of Koyuki's death.

"Hey, your parents aren't home right?" Douma asked, an odd question that sent a shiver down Hakuji's spine. Why would Douma ask him something like that? He wasn't planning something, was he?

"Yeah..." Hakuji replied cautiously.

Before he could ask further questions, Douma had simply hung up, leaving Hakuji to feel anxious, his mind racing to make sense of the situation.

Minutes past and still, he couldn't stop thinking about both Koyuki's passing, and the way Douma had asked him a question such as that.

He could feel someone's presence in the room, but he just couldn't tell where the person was. And he was too scared to even move.
