This wasn't him, he wasn't one for romance and close intimacy. He wasn't the man who became jealous, the man who protected a woman he wasn't familiar with. But everything changed when his eyes laid on her. She was different, he had never wanted anything more than sex, he had never been in a relationship he wans't sure if the lust he felt toward her was clouding his judgement, he wasn't sure on anything.
The day he had her curled onto his chest had long passed, 8 days ago to be exact. He wasn't purposely avoiding her it was something that was easy he had gone his whole life without bumping into her. He thought of her each day but not seeing her helped calm down his extreme thoughts and wet nights. However it had caused a deeper frustration within him, he wanted to know what was going on at all times, what she was doing and who she was with.
The life he led as one she didn't want to be involved in, darkness and anger. She hated everything about what her father did. She knew Derek was different, he had a purpose behind his anger toward David Grey. What she couldn't understand was his streak of anger, everyone said he wasn't an angry man nor violent but she knew he could be.
Just like Derek she continued on with things, she had been working on a charity case. She had volunteered to take on five dogs from romania. They had been beaten, starved, abandoned in the end. They had been victims of out of hand backyard breeding. Over 100 dogs had been seized and thirty different organisations had stepped in to take some of the dogs, Meredith being one of those people.
She had spent the past six days preparing one side of rescue kennels for the new arrivals, they would need to be in isolation for five days whilst Meredith completed flea and worm treatments as well as health checks.
She had no idea the ages of the dogs she would be receiving just that there were three australian shepherds, two males and a female as well as two female australian cattle dogs.
Today was the day the five arrived, so her schedule had been given to Cristina including the follow up of Coco.
Meredith was rushed off of her feet, the moment the transport van pulled in it was all hands on deck.
She walked over with Jackson, the organiser stepped out of the van.
"Meredith thank you for this, honestly"The middle aged woman smiled at Meredith as she handed her the paper work to sign.
"I will get them in good health, have them trained as well as neutered before I consider rehoming. They are in safe hands Nat"She nodded, opening the van doors her eyes met the gorgeous set of animals. Her eyes falling to the three Australian Shepherd's.
"This is mum, this is her elder boy he is pushing 8 months, this one however is around 7 weeks old, six were dead with him. He is very detached"Natalie looked at Meredith who nodded "Mum is maybe two years old. These two are both around 10 months we suspect sisters" Meredith took in the information.
Jackson took four of the leads as Meredith scooped the tiny puppy into her arms, he was the most gorgeous black tri coloured australian shepherd. He was covered in mites, ticks and fleas as well as scabs. They were all in awful conditions, She had prepared a consultation room just for them.

Derek and Carolyn had just checked in with Coco. He found himself searching for her even though he hadn't spoken to her since that day.
When Cristina called them in he couldn't help but frown, he followed his mother and sat down.
"Doctor Grey is currently working with some romanian rescues that came this morning so you have me. I am fully briefed on Coco's history. Meredith did say you called in early for this check up as it should be in a couple of weeks?"Cristina asked
"Yes, I am worried I feel like the lump has come back but I can't be sure"Carolyn looked full of nerves. Cristina tried to examine the dog but only recieved deep snarls.
"Okay, let me see if I can get her to come in girl"Cristina walked into the consult room where Meredith was checking over the mother of the puppies. "Coco won't let me examine and they think the lump is back Mer"Meredith looked up from where she stood with Jackson.
As a professional she pulled off her suit leaving her in her leggings and grey t shirt. She left Jackson to continue as she followed Cristina.
"Hello Miss Fussy"Meredith cooed walking in. "Not my most professional look but I had to take off the suit"Coco relaxed as Meredith looked into her mouth. Smiling as she saw the light inflammation. "Okay, so there is inflammation but from what I can see that is because she has eaten something hard It's lodged into her gum. I will remove it now and then bring her back in two days so I can see if it's gone"
Derek couldn't pull his eyes from her, she was perfect, her body was like no other. He had grown close to her yet ruined it by rushing away, maybe it was the close intimacy that scared him, the interactions had been so pure.
She removed the sharp piece of dog chew from Coco's gums, she could feel his eyes boaring into her. It wasn't something she disliked, just something that was unfamiliar to her.
"Okay beautiful girl, now lets see if that helps"She stroked her head as Jackson rushed in.
"Mer, the puppy is having a reaction to something we need you"Meredith nodded, her team were experienced but they weren't familar with foreign viruses and diseases.
"I am so sorry, I had romanian rescues come in this morning. Cristina will write up anti inflammatory tablets for her. Again I am so sorry" Her gaze lingered on Derek before she rushed out.
"Son, did something happen between you both?"Carolyn asked.
"No ma, I just feel a way for her that I have never felt or wanted to feel. She is beautiful, nothing like her family. Last week I was with her she fell asleep on me and I freaked out. Nothing romantic happened at all but It scared me"He felt embarrassed talking to his mother about his private life but he didn't know what else to do.
"Son, talk to her. You deserve happiness Derek. She could be the one for you if you talk to her and listen." She placed her hand on his shoulder as he thought deeply.

After half an hour of medicating the puppy she could finally get some air. His blood was poisoned from the mites and ticks, she had to bathe him and insert an IV. Now he slept soundly in his kennel.
She felt awful for rushing away from Derek and Carolyn, she could see it in his face that he was dissapointed.
She stood outside, taking in the cool air as she exhaled deeply. The day had been overwhelming, she had wanted to talk to Derek but she also didn't at the same time.
"You look lost in the thought princess"His voice snapped Meredith from her thoughts. She couldn't stop the smile that appeared on her face.
"I am, where is your mum and Coco"Meredith asked him.
"Dad picked them up. I wanted to see you"He stepped closer, the gap that had been between them now closed. "Fuck you are freezing"He frowned taking off his jacket and wrapping it around her.
"Why did you want to see me?"She asked "Thank you for this"She leant against the wall.
"I am sorry about running after you gave me my stuff back, It was rude of me. "Derek had never apoligised before, he had never wrapped a girl in his jacket before.
"Its okay, you don't want to be involved with a Grey"She looked down sadly.
"You are nothing like them, You are beautiful, kind, caring and Meredith you are so fucking sexy. You are driving me wild. I can't stop thinking about you"Desire burned his eyes as she wrapped her arms around his neck. There was a moment of silence, Derek's hands lifted her top lightly and rested on the bare skin of her waist.
He dipped his head down, hearing her lightly moan the moment her lips began to caress his.
There was no going back for them now.
